1/4 mile times and best techniques

1/4 mile best technique??
Hi, this is my first post on the forum so please be gentle  I thought this was the best place to post as its relevant to the ¼ mile and Eurocharged

I had my car at a ¼ mile event on Sunday (UK) and my best was 12.219@119.7 (my best terminal was 121mph) I was just wondering what the best method is to get the best times?

The Race Start function, isn’t much good, it too aggressive and you get too much wheel spin, in S+ once you loose traction off the line it automatically shifts into second and you loose time. My best times are in Manual, slowly building up the revs in first and shifting near redline.

The track was dry, but there was a lot of humidity in the air, very misty and around 10 degrees, so I reckon a sub 2secs 60ft is possible in the right conditions and should get into the 11’s ???

C63 Coupe with Eurocharged V4 tune and Michelin Pilot Super Sport tyres

Many thanks

ford svt's, and C63!!!
Drag radials would do wonders for your car imo. I have yet to be tuned, and on the street I feel MUCH more confident with a brawl from a red-light.

that's impressive for a near stock car with a tune and no drag radials. man these things get moving good. do the 09/10's runs a time like that with the same tune or are the newer coupes quicker?

so 11s with just tune and drag radials isn't out of the question even on non performance package cars?

Interesting your thoughts about S+ mode, my best time is 12.11 and that was in S+ mode starting from idle rpm. With Race Start I just usually pull 12.3x times but I've run sub 12.3s using S+. Car is a stock 2012 sedan with performance pack.

Drag radials are a big help on any high hp car but be careful at least on '12+ cars with MCT, there's what I believe is a glitch in the programming that sometimes allows the car to rev 3500 or so rpm and dump the clutch which sounds great till the driveshaft snaps and your without a car for a week while they order one from Germany

As for launching, I've gotten 1.8 60fts bone stock on stock Conti's in S+ with first gear selected and the traction control in Sport, leaving at idle and rolling on the throttle. Never try to flat punch it from idle with the traction control completely off unless your ok with possibly breaking a driveshaft

Care to link to where you saw this? First I've heard of it.

If your referring to the broken driveshaft it happened to me. With the traction control totally off flat punch my car from idle it will rev up and dump the clutch, though I try to avoid it now because on the third time my driveshaft snapped

hi guys wanted to bump this thread to ask some questions. went to the strip today, and ran a crappy 12.7 @ 110....i couldnt launch for the life of me (2.3 60s, with LC on) and the track was really high in elevation and a little up hill lol (if you stage with a m/t car, it rolls back)

anyways this is the first automatic car i've raced, and from what I heard in traditional automatics you build up the revs a little and slowly get in the throttle....but our cars dont have a torque converter so what is the best technique to use?

I also had the same trouble with OP where I would roll onto S+ and if i let off it shifts into second...i was going to try manual but then the track got rained out

1.Sticky tires and tire pressure are key.

SO here is what I am getting from this. Put on a set of drag radials. Do a burnout to get them nice and sticky. Roll up to the line in S mode, bring the RPM up slightly to ??? to launch, green light hammer down?
OK in simple general terms; What am I missing, what is a good average tire pressure for a 88 degree night in TX...

Even for street tires? I dont plan to do that much drag that I will go out and buy drag radials. Im more of a track racer haha

And how would i launch the car? Can i still do the stall rpm? Since my car is an MCT so no torque conveter

Street tire u will get 1.8's in 60 foot if you good and don't have a led foot.
If you track your car get some 888's they work good at the 1/4 mile.

Idk about MCT but my c63 is older and has the auto trans but my bros F10 m5 has DCT and LC but I don't use LC I just hold the gas and brakes just to build the revs up so your already on it once you let the brakes go.

If u have sticky tires. Use LC.

not saying it didnt happen, obviously it did but its a very isolated instance. ive never heard or seen this ever happening on a benz unless outside influence was involved. whether it be 55/63/65 stock or modified. was this the driveshaft or an axle shaft theres a big diffence?

Lol. I run like 14-15 with slicks.

Avr dd for c63 is above 36psi. - anything under 36 tpms comes on.

I drive my BS with traction off all the time, and I can vouch for the 3500rpm drop clutch launch behavior. I'm on street tires tho, on drag radials I can definately see driveshafts breaking.

I don't think it's a programming glitch tho, I think it's just an undocumented launch mode. Hold down the brakes, get on the throttle, let go of brake, works every time with ESP fully off.
