noob question about a new noise
So i just installed my Enkei RSM9 19" wheels on my C63. Front are 8.5 with 45 mm offset, back 9.5 with 45 mm offset. Tires are PSS 245 35 19, 265 30 19.
They installed smoothly, however when I slowly drove off I noticed a strange noise. Sounds just like a kids bike with a card stuck between the spokes making a rapid flapping sound. I carefully checked for a sticker or such but nothing. I can reach my hand all the way around the tires and they are not even close to making contact with the struts. Completely baffled. Anyone experience this? I plan to take the wheels off and check for any rubbing points. The sound is continuos and not related to spring compression, also the care is at stock height.

did you check to see if something (like a rock) was stuck in the tread? also, check the bolts to see if it's hitting something on the back side, on the offchance that the mounting face of your wheels are thinner than stock. put it up in the air and rotate the wheels by hand and see if the noise occurs.

Problem fixed for now
I took the long wheel bolts off and exchanged them for the OEM bolts. They screwed in 5.25 turns by hand and an additional 1/2 turn with the torque wrench so they are around 5.75 turns to fully bedded down. I think this meets the 6 turns requirement. I took a nasal endoscope and looked through the holes of each one I took out and couldn't see any thing except some mild scrapping on the brake shoe tension springs. No damage the the long wheel bolts so it looks like the contact was light if any making the noise. The cars drives great with the Super sports and 19 inch wheels. Love the black series look of these wheels. Will clean up the car for cars and coffee tomorrow and then post some pics.

Pilot super sport and 19 inch wheel review
I have been driving the car with the new 19 inch wheels and pilot super sport tires. Very nice change. Much crisper feel and more planted. No ride comfort issues at all-cudos to the excellent AMG suspension for that. No rubbing with the 245/265 upgrade. I guess I have a set of nearly new AMG wheels to sell now... in 18 inch

Tire rack isn't so great-this forum is.
I finally got to talk to a tech person at tire rack. He indicated, with a bit of a your so stupid tone, that the lug bolts they shipped were two different lengths and that I should have put those in the back. Hmmm, I re read the instructions on installing the wheels-doesn't say anything there. Checked the original lug bolts-what do you know-all the same length. Then checked the bolts they sent-oops all the same length. I guess I am only stupid in that I didn't read up on the problems people had with installations of the rear wheels that people had posted about in this forum. Score 1 for MBWord - 0 for Tire Rack.

happens all the time, atleast you bought some quality wheels. most people go to rent a tire and get all this cheap china crap and wonder why it doesnt fit. typically it destroys the parking brake spriings within a few rotations and then it turns into an intermittant rattle/grinding noise.
