Simple Laws of Physics - Range Rover > Squid Bike
Having said that, I prefer to see how far the hands can take you if realistic chances are evident. Here, in this case that's not so. Outnumbered and with family, I cant say I fault the RR driver one bit.
Everyone needs to think about the situation and be realistic. The only way to safely pulled a gun is if the car is adequately armored to protect your family. But you probably wouldn't need to pull a gun in that case.
What I would have done is to keep the vehicle moving until the police shows up, so they wouldn't have a chance to drag me out of the vehicle. Thus I would just reverse and ram back into the horde of bikers and even drive onto the sidewalk if I need to. Hey that's what an SUV is for, right?!--moreover, it's a Range Rover, one of the original SUV for the safari and THE JUNGLE. Unfortunately, the mentality of most SUV drivers is to use it like a car and they forget they are actually driving a SUV. After all, it's mostly pointless to drive a SUV in an urban setting.
BTW, why Mr. Lien has forgotten to keep his door locked in that setting is completely beyond me. And I thought car of that price range will usually autolock the doors over a certain speed.

Where is a 2000lb JDAM when you need one?
As a trucker that would deliver in north jersey and New York I am familiar with these gangs. I can hopefully clarify a few things. First the initial "accident" is part of a game they play. They ride in a huge group and will operate together to slow down traffic. Next they pick out high end vehicles targeting people with families in them, the targets will usually be white or Asian. Then one of the riders will do a " brake check" and stop suddenly in front of the target vehicle causing a minor bump. In some cases they will just roll back into their target vehicle . They will then mob the vehicle demanding money and or begin attacking the person inside. It is their practice to also slash the tires to prevent the vehicle from escaping. Truckers are well aware of them and are advised not to stop.
-------------------------
There are scams and set ups every day. One of the individuals set up the situation for the bump to occur. Noticed how the SUV was boxed in with no way of getting out of the situation. Then he intentionly slowed down to allow the bump to occur. If the driver was to get out that would have been a bad move. To flee to a safer area would have been better, such as he did. I am surprised there was not any officers that may have seen the incident occuring along the freeway. The SUV driver, in my opinion may have been set up as a target.

However, no matter who was in the wrong, you just admitted to a felony on on a public forum.
As for the topic, I would have done the same thing. That type of crowd is why my wife won't let me get another bike, as well as why insurance is so damn high.

That is true...unless there is video of you cutting in front of the vehicle with only 2 feet to spare and brake checking him.
They do this on purpose and when they go down they claim victim. One of the previous posts is correct, they look for people to attack.
And if anyone "innocent" got hurt, well im sorry to say its their fault for going on a mass ride with dirt bags. I've been riding for 8 years and ive made sure to stay away from crowds more than 5 bikes and only go with people i know.
Decent riders don’t cut people off, cage them in, split lanes for miles at a time and threaten others on the road and take off license plates from their bikes.
I hope they find more of them and charge them with at least assault. And i hope the driver of the RR walks away from all of this.
Maybe RR will give him a new car for such a good offloading commercial.

But back on topic, I really, really, really, really respect the guy driving that car. He just wanted to get his wife and daughter out safe, and he was able to accomplish that. He also must have been one on the nicest people in this whole world, because if me or pretty much anyone else had been in his place, they would've left a boatload of dead bodies all over the road for ****ing around with him, his family, and least importantly his car.

I say this because most people don't have the sense to act quick enough when they realize they are in trouble. This guy and his family are lucky he was quick witted enough to get them out of harms way.
Did he act in a reckless manor, will he be fined, possibly jailed... who knows, who the hell cares. He and his family are all alive and well. I would sit in jail knowing I saved my family if that's what it came down to.
Good on RR driver! Hero of the day if you ask me! Guys on bikes went looking for trouble, guess what, they found it! Then ignorantly enough, indicted themselves!!!
You can see the same group here terrorizing a prius (1.13).... kinda like Guilty's Smart hahahahha.
Look how these idiots ride!
