Question about seasonal tire changing regime

Hi guys I have a question. I recently acquired a set of 18" 5 spoke rims with winter tires on it for my car. I intend to switch the summer set up with these within the next couple of weeks. My question is do I need to do anything special for doing that or do I simply go to a shop and get them swapped?

Do I need to go to a dealer to get some system resets or anything like that all?

Thanks!

Don't hold this against me but I'm pretty sure all you have to do is just go get them swapped, could even do it in your garage if you had the tools.

Do they have TPMS? Might need to make sure it pairs properly. Other than that jack it up and change em. Make sure diection is correct if applicable. I've switched them myself several times in the driveway with the stock jack and tire iron on my E-class, although my tire guy did it for free last time (he gets all my tire busines$$)

unless you need to have TPMS installed on your winter wheels, all you need is to swap them and torque the lug bolts back to proper specs, and you're good to go.

I purchased them used locally and the guy said as far as he knew they did have TPMS. He said he didn't recall any error signs showing up after he swapped them. So I guess no setting needs to be changed when they are swapped?

What did you mean by, 'make sure it pairs properly'? What do I need to do for that?

Just swap them in ur driveway, very easy.

If they have tpms already, I think u need to go on ur cluster menu & search for tire pressure message or tpms then press reset.

Canadian cars don't have tpms so it's hard to say.

What? Canadian cars don't have TPMS? I have a Canadian car (Calgary) and I have the tire pressure reset option in my cluster menu. I am pretty sure it has TPMS.

Actually it depends on the year.. What year s urs?

Edit: saw u have a 2011 w/PP. so I think the PP have tpms but I might be wrong. Regular C63 don't have it.

Ah, I see. That makes sense cause I definitely have the option that says reset tire pressure. Now the tires I've bought locally from another guy hopefully has TPMS as well cause I don't want any error signs popping up once I swap them. He wasn't sure cause he didn't remember.

So as far as swapping is concerned, just swap the tires and reset the tire pressure from the cluster? That's it? No need to take it to the dealer for anything right?

Yes, it should be it but again u gotta confirm with a member who has tpms. Or try it for urself, once u install the wheels, reset the tpms if it works u r good to go .. If not, u will have to go to the dealership re-program it (which I doubt u have to).

Look at the valve stem. If it's aluminum (with a gray plastic cap if they haven't been changed) it is likely a TPMS sensor. If it's a rubber valve stem then they don't have TPMS.

Canadian TPMS is different than US TPMS. You should have the reset function in your cluster regardless of year of Canadian C63.

The TPMS works off the ABS sensors in Canada - there is no actual TPMS sensor in the wheel.

that's what I thought as well, but this does not apply to all C63. the P31 package comes with tpms in the wheels... at least my friend's car has them in Canada.

Not on the APX cars it doesn't. There are TPMS sensors in each wheel. The 2012+ (LCI) non-APX cars use the ABS.

APX in Canada = P30+P31+LSD in the US

If your car does not display the actual tire pressure psi reading, you do not have a TPMS in your wheels and all you would need to do is swap the wheel and reset the tire monitoring system, since the diameter of the wheels have likely changed.

I know my p30 2010 does NOT have TPMS sensors in the wheels.

Didn't realize that. I stand corrected.

The 2010 C63 P31 in Canada does not have TPMS sensors and uses the ABS to monitor tire pressure. Not sure about model years after that with APX.

So I can update this now that the swap is done. People that are saying that this car doesn't have TPMS are correct. My tire guy told me that Canadian C63's don't have this option. The option in the cluster menu is simply reset after the swap and you're good to go. It doesn't show the actual tire pressure or anything so it has no TPMS.

Anyway, thought I'd update to clear any confusion. I have the OEM 18" with winter rims on it now but I miss the 19" multispokes. lol

Right - 2012 and newer Canadian cars with the APX package have the TPMS sensors. The rest do not. I think that's what everyone was saying.
