Gas

I was pumping gas into my amg c63 and at first it just kept shutting off... Then after pushing the nozzle down hard into the tank...it was fine but when it was full I had one hell of a time pulling it back out...anyone else experience this...is there some trick I am missing here or something???

If it keeps clicking off, it's probably due to an improper seal between the gas nozzle and the gas filler reservoir. Usually taking out the nozzle completely and reinserting it will fix it. Otherwise, someone needs more practice filling up gas...especially with our C63s.

It's probably the pump. Some pumps require they they be inserted almost upside down (say, with the bottom of the pump pointing up at the 11 o'clock position) in Mercs. Try it, you'll see.

I had a similar problem and when I took the car into the dealership to get it looked at, I was told that it was a common issue in CA because of some of the newer nozzle designs. The old longer nozzles still work fine but with the newer ones, I have to push and hold it there the whole time.

That's nice to know. I was starting to think I had somehow forgotten how to properly pump gas, haha. Never had this problem before I had a C63, now it happens pretty often when I'm filling up.

this has always happened with all my amgs. pretty annoying. doesn't happen if the pump is slower, though. with faster pumps, I have to push the nozzle and lean on it the entire time.

Sorry, meant to say nozzle instead of pump. The way it was explained to me is that the shape our gas filler pipe neck does not complement the nozzle design of one particular manufacturer so you might have the multiple shutoff problem at one station but not with a different brand of gas at another station.

I've only had one issue filling up. The nozzle kept stopping like it was full, but I had just started to fill up. It did this like 6 times before it held itself in place to complete refueling. I get why they're there, but those sleeves are a b****. Especially with motorcycles.

That is intriguing, my 63 is the only car I have owned where I can stick the nozzle in full bore and brim the tank until the auto cut off stops play. No issues at all and if I try to squeeze more gas in, it is only a small additional amount and hardly worth the effort. Not sure if you guys have the same nozzle diameter as here in Australia or whether that plays a part but filling the tank on my 63 is without drama or fuss.........

All these new vapor recovery nozzles are crap. Find an older gas station that doesnt have the fancy new ones. all those little fuel vapors from filling up with fuel causing global warming... when are they going to put emissions systems on airplanes?

happens to me at certain pumps when I wait till the very end to fill up again. If I fill up when the reserve light comes up, then its fine.

same here took me almost a full minuet to get the dam thing out as it was stuck proper inside it. pretty funny not to act stupid with people looking at you trying to remove a nozzle from the gas tank.

On an interesting tangent, the 2013 Ford Focus I'm being loaned has no gas cap. You open the panel and stick the gas nozzle straight in.

I've had a difficult time once or twice removing the gas nozzle.
