Got my new Weistec oil air seperator
I got my Weistec oil air seperator earlier this week. Sorry for the bad photos I took them this morning with my phone. I was informed this was a redesign of some kind and indeed it is black vs grey. I do not know what was changed on this version but man, it sure does look and feel good. I am excited to get this on my 507 this weekend to keep it healthy and strong for years to come!
Anyone know where I can get directions on the install? I have a pretty good understanding of how to put this in, but I wanted to just read over any additional information that was out there before I begin.

That's odd that it didn't come with instructions. If you look at there website you can see how it's installed from the pictures shown on its page.

I spoke to Weistec last week when they released them and it is purely a cosmetic change, no changes to the way it works.

Looks cool.
Pardon my ignorance, but is thing a necessity or a luxury?

because of emissions purposes and most owners wont go the extra mile to service more stuff. Check the catch can every 3k as it will fill up and definately keep your intake from getting soaked with nasty oil.

Cool buy! I've been thinking of getting one too!
So what are the benefits?
"it prevents engine oil going back into the intake manifold by catching it in the can" no other maintenance is required?

So the idea here is that the crankcase needs to breathe so it is connected to the air intake. Unfortunately this means small amounts of oil from the crankcase can be forced back into the intakes. Small amounts build up over time. This can decrease performance and cause engine detonation(knocking). All this device does is catch the oil before it can get to the intake. You have to empty the oil from the device every 3000 miles so it's an extra step but for me it's so much better than the alternative. Other than that no other benefit, it's preventive maintenance.

I love my oil air separator! Didn't need instructions because its quite obvious where it goes and how to install it! I have never had any problems with it and am always amazed when I empty it to see all the gunk it salvaged!

I think this is a good preventative measure. Obviously with an engine that is boosted (ie supercharged) this is a bigger deal. I would not say this is critical on a NA motor, plus we do have a PCV(as do all cars), this just adds a capture mechanism.
I checked the website and it said sold out - also for $500 a bit pricey for a can and some connectors (billet I know but....?)

Yes it seems like a lot of money for a metal can and some tubes but the quality of this item is top notch.
In a world where we spend several thousands of dollars for items that simply make the car look nicer, $500 for an item that would give me peace of mind that my beautiful car will continue to roll on for a long long time (hopefully) is a no-brainer.

alpha rabbit: Thanks for explaining.. going forward then I would have to remove the lil oil separator can out to expunge the excess oil every 3000km? That seems to be alright as long its maintaining your engine better in the long run! I love my C63 and obviously its with me for the long term!
