Redline shifts in C vs S

Here's something I've been pondering.

I know that the '08-'11s don't have an S+ mode to select. Instead, we have to put the transmission into S and then downshift to D1 in order to get the car to automatically shift at redline.

Technically, we can also do that in C. I tried it the other night and the car still shifts at redline. I'm just wondering if there's a difference. If S shifts more aggressively than C in automatic mode, and both C"+" and S"+" shift at redline in semi-auto mode, what's the difference?

I have the brochure for the car. Supposedly S shifts faster and M has the fastest shifts. Timing shifts in M (as we all know) is tricky though and not necessarily the fastest way to accelerate.

Would anyone know how many milliseconds the difference is between C and S?

I think C shifts at 7000RPM and S shifts at 7200RPM.

Interesting as I was wondering myself why was I able to put a C"+" mode.
But never really follow through.

Interesting.

Now, I noticed that I can leave the transmission in like D3 in C or S mode. Does that mean in 3rd gear and below it shifts normally and above, it switches to redline?

Spot on.

In D3 in C it will shift at 7000rpm, in D3 in S it will shift at 7200rpm, if it doesn't reach those levels it will stay in 3rd gear or below.

In this situation what RPM will it upshift automatically in 4th-6th?

7000rpm at every gear if in C mode and 7200rpm at every gear if in S mode.

This is only for prefacelift cars where if you push the down paddle you will get a gear number, e.g. S1, S2 or C1, C2.

If you are in S4 and going slow the car will upshift at approx. 2000rpm until you are in 4th gear, then it will shift at 7200.

If you are in C4 the car will upshift all gears below 4th at approx. 1600rpm and then once you get to 4th gear it will shift at 7000.

Obviously the car adapts to your style of driving, so if you are in S4 and floor it off takeoff it wont shift at 2000rpm but higher in the rev range.

Hope this made sense.

If we're using my example, in D1-3, the car shifts normally as if you were cruising depending on how much throttle you give.

Above that, it switches to shifting at redline. When I do a standing launch, I'm in S mode and D1. That means all my shifts are redline.

Charlie, was that what you meant?

C mode also starts in 2nd gear instead of 1st.

EDIT: still valid but doesn't have anything to do with redline shifting

True, but that's not really what I'm asking...
