Driving around in Berkeley and Rockridge is a major PITA...There are a lot of great restaurants and specialty cafés that I like, but finding a parking is very difficult, there are a lot of crazy people walking around, and the city wide speed limit, even on major streets and Avenues is just 25 MPH. I once got pulled over for speeding going 35 MPH on University Ave. Sorry to see what happened, but the dialogue going on in your car and the girls's oh, oh, oh, a BEEP HIM is "almost" funny. Your car will be fine, but it is such a sacrifice when you don't have it and it is getting repaired. I don't blame you for freezing up...sometimes it happens.

What's the matter with drivers nowadays?! Didn't he even bother to turn his head around to look when backing up if there is no reverse camera or other electronic aid?! What happened if he did the same and rolled over a pedestrian?!
BTW, the images are pretty sharp. What kind of camera did you have?

Judging by the sound of the video recording it looks like the girl was paying attention to the road and the driver (O.P.) was paying attention to...the girl
If he (O.P.) have blown the horn when the girl first told him to do so, maybe the old guy would have stopped in time to avoid the collision.
Anyway, legally the old guy is 100% at fault.

In the old guy's defense you pulled in behind him while he was parking. I think it's kind of lame to just sit there and let the guy back in to you. I would call you the dumb ****.

If you paid attention to the thread, you would know that it was a turning lane and there was no legal parking spot for the old guy to pull into. Sure, Anthony's reaction could have been faster, but it's the old guy's fault for not even checking his mirrors and performing an illegal driving maneuver.

All I'm saying is paying attention to what other drivers are doing could save us a lot of headaches. I know it's easy to say now: to honk the horn, to back up or to get on the other lane to avoid the SUV. The damages have been done, and OP will be out if his car for a few weeks.
Could this be avoided? My opinion is still yes.

SUV 100% at fault, but OP could have avoided collision. Hell, my grandmother would have been able to get out of the way, and she's been dead for over 10 years.

And yes, there was a 5 second period between when he stated backing up, and hit my car. I was just kind of stunned I guess and the first couple seconds I didn't think he was actually going to back into me, and then I kind of froze as my brain started processing what was happening. Deer in the headlights, haha. Should have honked sooner, but I didn't. **** happens 5 seconds goes by a lot faster when you're in the heat of the moment.

KIS007's comment for the morning lol.
Deer in head lights moment for sure. I've had plenty of these and your reaction isn't out of the ordinary. I almost didn't honk at a similar incident in my panic finding the horn. Mines located on the signal stalk and to the right so it took me awhile to find and press it and thankfully avoid impact.
Awesome camera btw. I'm running a vc-250, front and passenger facing camera, but does NOT record when engine shuts off or electrical off. In my H1, my cigar light never powers off so not a problem for me! The only worrisome thing is the thieves breaking in when they see OH A WINDSHIELD MOUNTED GPS/RADAR/etc and break your window. Especially in DTSJ or Oakland.

In Texas with that camera, you would have been found partially at fault for just sitting there. They divy up responsibilities so no one is technically 100% at fault.
I'm just saying f it were me and my AMG i would have gotten out of the way considering now your AMG was in an accident now the car has diminished value?

My reaction would of been similar but I would of probably beeped sooner, and hoped the guy heard me and stopped before contact.
All those stating "you should of moved" - its not that easy in such a situation. Back up? Who knows if someone is behind you... and in that type of situation its hard to have the awarness to check mirrors and move. Also turning to your left... another car could of been coming.
So I would of stayed put, and beeped my horn like a mad man right away when I saw those back-up lights turn on.

You guys that are calling the OP a *******, saying that the OP is somehow responsible, and saying that the OP is some sort of moron for not moving, are all idiots. Things happen and anyone could have"frozen" in the moment during a shocking situation. If you watch the video, there were a bunch if people in his car and was actively having a conversation with several of them. This could have happened to anyone. Best thing is that no one got hurt and the OP has proof that the accident was caused by the vehicle in front of him, which is quite a rare occurrence. Many of you talk a big game. Have some freaking compassion for others in times of their misfortune. I guess we all can expect trolls on the internet

By the way, it for the most part, was good natured commentary. If you can't laugh at this ****, what would you propose?

Some slow reflexes when it comes to using the horn, driving out of the way, anything...
Too bad it happened though, hopefully it all gets cleared up. he did reverse into you so should be a no-brainer

So my question is having a deep conversation with a hot girl in the car be as distractive as texting/ calling while driving? J/K lol
And as for Jean ValJean comment, we are not calling OP a moron(well some might have?), we are just giving him constructive criticism about paying attention to the surrounding environment.
