WHAT? 5.5 TT in next c63?

The next C63 has been rumored left and right to get the same new 4.0 TT V8 that is going to power the SLS replacement.

According to EVO mag the 5.5 TT V8 could actually be the next motor for the new c63.

From EVO:
"The new version is set to inherit the 5.5-litre twin-turbo V8 that’s becoming uniform across the AMG line, and we reckon its 518bhp tune would peg a new C63 neatly between current C63 performance levels and those of its E63 bigger brother."

http://www.evo.co.uk/news/evonews/29...and_specs.html

So what motor is it going to be? 4.0 TT or the 5.5 TT

EDIT:
Just in from Autocar:
"The C63 AMG version will be powered by a new twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 engine"

http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/de...class-revealed

So who is right?

My money is on the 4.0 TT. It makes sense at this point more so than the 5.5 considering their lineup.

There will be no 5.5tt in it. It's getting the 4.0. MB let out some details ahead of the unveil.

+1

It makes sense. Using a 5.5 TT would just be like transplanting the E63 engine into the C-Class...that would be rather lazy of MB, no?

I don't think it has anything to do with laziness. I'm willing to bet the C63 cannibalized a lot of sales from the more expensive higher end models, since many purchase AMG models based on engine and performance.

If they did the same thing with the upcoming C, especially if they finally actually put a quality interior in with all the same options that can be had from the higher end models, they would again lose sales of the higher end models to the C class.

It would make sense to put the AMG model in between the higher end models, and the lower 45 series models, so I would guess 4.0TT

Again, like everything else, this is pure speculation and guess work on my part.

I don't think they will call it a C63 anymore

But the 4 Liter V8 with a pair of Turbos will indeed be a force to reckon with. MB should also be able to cut down on the weight of the car as well. Should be a rocket none the less.

Whew! Being strictly selfish, I'm glad the new C63 will get the 4.0 liter instead of the 5.5 liter. I just ordered a new C63 Coupe Edition 507.

Had the new C63 received the 5.5, I may have regretted my new order. As such, I have absolutely no regrets with what I ordered. The 5.5 in the new C63 would have been a complete animal from another planet...

The 4.0 makes sense in the new C63 since the new M3/M4 makes due with a 3.0.

Cheers/B

I get what you are saying. The 507 is one mean machine.

There is a dealer in my town with four 507 on the lot. Probably going to have a hard time selling them since winter has started.

Based on what the next C63 is and it's price I will probably either buy a new 2015 c63 or try to get a leftover 507 at a discount next spring.

If I get a 507 I will probably keep it 7 years (with extended warranty).

I guess that in 2021(2014 plus 7 years) it will probably one of the few non-turbocharged engined car on the road. Or non-hybrid or non-electric for that matter.

Never mind the engine size 6.2L.

If people are staring at your car funny when they see your 6.3 badge on the car, try to imagine how people will react seeing the same badge in 2021.

The 507 is a keeper for sure

Why not....63 is a brandname...not just a nod to engine size.

Look at the 2014 S63/SL63/CLS63/E63/GL63/ML63

None of them have the 6.3 (6.2)

its more than confirmed to be a 4.0L tt. it'd loosely based on the cla 45 motor. except two of them together. Im sure they will sand bag it around 450hp, which will be great for tuners and reflashes.

Let's hope that MB will leave some room in the setup for increasing the boost and such via tuners. When I was at the PL gathering. I asked how much more can be squeezed out of the CLA45 motor or how much more boost in can take given its internals. HE said it's tapped out. So if it's based on that motor, I hope it's not gonna be tapped out either in terms of what the bottom end can handle and stuff.

Any details about how many pounds of boost?

Based on spacific output of the 2.0 in the cla. The 4.0 is good for around 700hp

^^^ c63canada: This was pretty much my thinking as well. I had read all the foreign car rags (EVO, CAR, et al) and the rumour was either the 5.5 or the 4.0 for the new C63, so I knew what I was getting into/not getting into, when I ordered my Coupe.

At the end of the day, any MB "big block" naturally aspirated car will be coveted by auto enthusiasts down the road. I want to be part of that ownership. My Edition 507 will be a long term keeper for me. Simply for me, there is no replacement for displacement, lol...

Moreover, turbo long term reliability still scares me a bit. As a matter of fact, when my wife's X3 MSport goes out of warranty, I hope to snag a new MB GLK, with its normally aspirated 3.5 liter engine. I'm keeping my eye on the GLK's transition from normally aspirated to turbos; this is when I will make my move/trade.

GL/Cheers,

BB

Exactly what I think. All the new turbo engine are going to require some serious cash to keep running once the waranty is over IMO. Not only in super sedans but even in small budget cars. Look at the price of a used CL 65 amg about 40k or less versus when it was new 180 k. Why because if a turbo goes boom be prepared to re mortgage your house.

On the other hand, the TT engines are going to save us a lot of cash on gas.

But TT won't give you the same sound as a NA high displacement engine.

Mercedes kept the 6.2 NA engine for their flagship model the SLS for a reason: in terms of driving pleasure, it is one of the best engine period (all manufacturer) and the best from Mercedes (at this moment) IMO.

I don't think it's "tapped out" at all.
