MB Specialized tools and where to get them?
Other than MB, where can we get some of the specialized items (like the cam lock tools).
I have searched for part numbers based on the MB part number. MB wants $150 to $250 for a freaking plate with a screw, which I think is stupid and outrageous...
Also, the online prices for the tools seem to be higher than the MSRP (at least at getmercedesparts.com which happens to be MB of Annapolis my dealer).
So I figured, someone must know where we can get the tools at a reasonable rate. Our cars are getting older, and will start to need more regular and random maintenance.
Or do you all think I am barking up the wrong tree here and just need to suck it up and pay the MB tax on the tools non the less

I'm at 90k miles at the moment, fortunately with the new project being a travel one, I do maybe 40 miles on the weekend and then it is parked at the airport all week. But.. I'm keeping it (otherwise I will never hear the end of it from my wife
).
At least I am mechanically inclined, and able (and willing to take the risks) to do much of the work myself.

Quite frankly most of these type tools can be fabricated quickly & sometimes do a better job than originals.
e.g. Valve spring compressor <$10 for a hammer handle, a couple of washers & some scrap bits welded together.

I have started an excel document that contains part numbers and links to some of the various tools and parts. The parts and tools are mostly for services that I will be doing in the near future (probably spring/summer since I have to work outside (under a giant pop up tent)), and it is freezing *** cold (okay, other than this past weekend where it was 70'F). I will update the document as I figure out what parts and tools are what.
The primary reason is simply anytime someone asks what a tool or part number is, everyone shouts it's prior in the thread, or search for it. Well sometimes, it is a pain to search for the part number, and having to go through a dozen different threads just to figure out the damn part number for the M159 buckets... So I will attach the spreadsheet, and update it as I update it (which will be sporadically unless others add information.
Sorry for the Code box, was just easiest to use to keep formatting. Meat of the data is visible, my notes hidden behind the scrolling part

Tools are meant to be sold to shops and dealerships so the prices are high. You will likely not find many places wanting to deal with tools either because parts employees can't look them up and MB does not publish list prices for them making it more complicated they are also non-returnable.
