Is it possible that someone totaled a 28k engine, and swapped in a new one with the old valve covers, Yes.
Given I have the ownership records since new and the previous owner was more than honest about everything with the car, and I spoke to the mechanic who serviced the car (without the owner knowing), it doesn’t seem probable.
When I pull the heads tomorrow, I’ll check the block number
I have a 2011 P31 C63 With engine code out of the range. Just removed passenger side valve cover due to it leaking slightly and been loosing coolant maybe from the expansion tank.

My 2011 I had for 7 years also had an engine outside the range with old bolts. It never lost a real amount of coolant but it did slowly consume it. I had to top off once per year or so. I drove it like I stole it for the 45-50k Miles I put on it. It got a little tired towards the end but the coolant consumption never changed.
As many of you know, I have been providing Datacard info to many members interested in their build sheet, or to verify engine serial number.
I received a PM from a member today who indicates he has a "late 2010 C63". The Datacard for the VIN he provided shows a delivery date of 11/24/2010. The Datacard indicates the engine number is over 4,000 engines beyond serial number 156983 60 060658 where the new head bolts were employed.
Since we've believed that all 2010 and older, and some 2011s were in the affected range, I'm confused about how this one could be outside the range. I did a search to find out which digit in the VIN corresponds to the model year, but had no luck getting a clear answer.
