AMG Driving Academy-COTA
For all you that purchased a brand new AMG, or are going anyway:
I'm curious to see if anyone is going to the Driving Academy at COTA this April. I just received the schedule and registered for the advanced course in Austin. I applied my certificate towards the advanced course and I'm really excited. From all the press, fans, and friends that have gone, I hear the track at COTA is truly spectacular. I am feeling very honored and extremely giddy about getting some seat time and laps under my belt at this track.
I was wondering if anyone else was going and at/for what times or course level? I'd love to get together with you guys, share my house, and share the city. It seems like it will be invaluable and an extreme amount of fun.

that makes three of so far.
Advanced: April 26-27
I had a chance to visit the COTA during this past F1 and its amazing. After the qualifying, on Saturday, I and three of y friends (and bunch of other people) jogged on the track all 3.5 miles of it. Amazing experience.
Also, jrcart, Advanced is 2 days, unless you meant Pro.

I was looking at doing the April 23rd Basic and then driving over to Ft. Stockton for the Big Bend Open Road Race. http://www.bborr.com/
I still need to check with the organizers to see if I can come on the 24th to go through tech inspection and Rookie orientation. (The schedule shows they prefer rookies to come on Wed. 23rd)
If I can't work that all out then I may just do the AMG Academy in Florida later in May.

COTA
- has twice the number of turns of the tracks offered in 2014.
- has twice the average track length of all other tracks
- only F1 track
- happens to be 2 hr drive from me.
- April will be the BEST weather in TX (You'd think so)

I registered for the Limerock event in CT on Sep 12. I live in DC and have family in CT, so that one made the most sense. Anybody hear anything about Limerock? COTA sounds awesome!

but Big Bend Open Road Race rocks, Do It if you can...! Register quickly though, the 160 slots go quick. If an AMG showed up I bet you would be the only one, corvettes and porsches are common, with a sprinkling of mustangs. Lots of specialty entries as well.
Nothing like blasting at 120mph (rookie class) for 33+ minutes! Stopping in Sanderson and having lunch, and then lining up to do it all over again in the opposite direction for a 2 way speed average. Once you are cleared by the officials, then you can slowly climb the classes year by year reaching 160+ mph and unlimited class, I can't imagine what that must be like, especially thru the hills and twisty sections. Big ***** required...
Not sure where the addicted racers stay at, used to be the Best Western in years past when I attended but now it looks like they have a Comfort Suites in the same place. It's worth finding that crowd and hanging with them as they can share some good insight to the event come race day and know how to throw down at night, overall a good bunch. Funny how a good portion of repeat racers are retired Fighter Jet Jockeys Lol. That should tell you something about the race itself.
So Addictive, can't wait to go back and do it again one of these years.
Rennlist
Back on Topic, can't wait to do COTA sometime in the near future.

I was thinking of doing the same one as it is within driving distance from DC as well. LimeRock is not a boring track but def not up there in my top 10.
Didn't know COTA was offered - might be worth it. Are they only doing advanced there? I thought if you had to have one of the other courses under your belt before you could do an advanced?
I was thinking up making the splurge for the upgraded class and COTA would be sick!!

Well that is why i was interested since it's a acceptable distance from home. If i cannot make it in April I hope they'll have future dates soon.

You have to do basic (free with new AMG) to do advanced and then PRo.

Even if it wasn't in my backyard................................
have you seen this course???? It looks to be the most challenging of the AMG DA! Had I still lived elsewhere in the country, it would be my top choice by far.
Take a moment to review the track. It's ridiculous!!!

They are doing all levels. Technically, if you had the time and money, you could do basic (mandatory) and then advanced and finish up with PRO, since all are offered on different dates without any gap...

hmm.. I wonder if charity go-cart racing qualifies.

I actually rode on the COTA track last year on my Honda CBR for MotoGP and I can tell you the track is simply amazing.
Granted the driving experience will be different in a car, the turns and straightway will be awesome irregardless!
