I have the Directed Electronincs remote started in my wifes GL550. It works from a smart phone and allows her to remotely start the car from anywhere as well as set climate control. It is a pretty cool system.

This is a remote start. You can't actively control the climate temp, but you can remotely start the car and the climate control system will bring the car to whatever temp it was last set on. That seems to me like a good solution - I don't change the climate control settings much when I'm in the car, why would I want to do it over the phone when I'm NOT in the car?

These are manufactured in the Czech Republic. They use the existing key fob for control. They provide a module with wiring harness that plugs into the start button, and apparently requires removal of the start button. They provide a copy of the Mercedes tool for removing the start button.

Based on my visit to their website today, it does not look like they have either the starter or the manual available yet for the W204. You can leave an email for notification when they become available.

I have the SmartKey starter from Mid City http://www.midcityengineering.com/smartkey-starter in my E320 and it works great as a remote starter, I use it to heat/cool all the time. I watched the install it was a seamless integration no splicing and the start button wasn't removed. There is a smartphone upgrade available but I didn't opt for it.

This looks nice! I couldn't get a gasoline warmer installed into the C-class (apparently our beloved engine takes up too much space) so this would be a nice alternative. They do however seem to be out of stock

I've not seen a gasoline warmer in the US since the 1960's (air cooled VWs and Corvairs used 'em to heat up the passenger compartment) - are they really still made? Are they common in your part of the world?
