NEED NEW TIRES FOR 11 c63. Currently has oem Continentals p5s or rather the third set on rear.
The tires perform great but... before upgrading power I want 99Y tires.
Unfortunately every Dealer I talk to wants to sell me the ones he wants to sell first.
The Continentals have a 280 tread wear rating and I would like better wear if possible st the same time going to a tire with a higher performance potential.
Any experiences or suggestions?

Sigh.

Michelin Pilot Super Sports. Y rated and 300AAA tread wear. They can handle speed higher than you will go.

I'm feeling generous:

Why didn't you suggest 245's on the front? Any negatives to increasing the front tire width?

Weight is one reason (which is minimal but still). On OEM wheels the fronts will be fine on 235's. Michelin runs slightly wider anyway and I don't see any reason he would need 245's because there isn't any information in his post that would lead me to believe so. Such as he doesn't say he is going to religiously track his car etc etc. Seems as though his only concern was the speed the tire can handle and a treadwear rating of 280 or better... Not to mention a narrower front would be better for dragging the car. Notice how you see all those really high hp cars on narrow fronts.

However...

If the OP so wishes he could run 245's in the front and 275's in the back and be fine. Some people have said 275's in the rear feel mushy but that is argued.

Thanks for the insight. I've already started doing research on my next set of tires even though I only have 2,500 miles on this set.

^ haha I was seriously about to just go make a post of every single possible shopping cart you would need for this car. At least common summer sets and a decent winter setup for 18/19's.

It's the way of the forums. New owners always picking up cars and then asking the same questions. Some will search a topic but they type in "tires" and get threads on the right windshield wipers because someone mentioned tires in the threads.

So, I was making a whole thread that could be a sticky for tires.... Hit a button... and it closed. I put about 2 hours into it at that point with opening tabs, looking up info on MBworld/tirerack/etc...

Will make one tomorrow.

OP, sorry for the threadjack. Aside from a slight weight difference is there any other reason not to use 245's on the front? My interest is to improve traction, but not to sacrifice turning radius, or have a rubbing issue. Also, I think it would look better with wider rubber all around. Thanks again for the help.

in theory, the extra rubber in the front should create more front end grip, but I don't think that itty bitty bit more rubber is gonna make any appreciable difference in 99% of driving situations. I agree that the wider size would look better, though.

Maybe this helps a little bit . . . a previous thread I started to show pics of 245's up front and 265's rear, on stock 18" wheels and stock suspension. No rubbing no issues. Great on street and track. I have an appt to have my KW V3's installed later. I post back if that causes rubbing or anything else.

That looks perfect! This will be my summer tire and size choice.

I come from the world of G35 tuning and we have 8.5" rear rims and people routinely run 275s on that rim. I have done this and it looked really dumb IMO lol. I tracked the car also and had no problems with the wider rubber. So a 275 will fit the C63 rear no problem... But that 265 looks just right.

Actually 255/275 is max size all around without rubbing.
