Should I buy an aftermarket warranty?
I recently purchased a 2009 c63 amg with 55k km on it. Since I purchased it not from a mercedes dealership, they will not offer me a OEM extended warranty. Is it worth the hassle/money for me to invest in a aftermarket warranty? or should I just take my chances with a pricey repair bill.

Coincidence? Half hour ago I returned from a local MB dealership inquiring into an extended warranty for my 2010. I was told the same thing. Since I didn't buy it CPO'd, nor from a MB dealership then no OEM extended warranty. They did however have access to their 'preferred' third party vendor and showed me a table of coverages and prices. It was about $7k for 7 yrs & 75k miles. I think I'll take my chances w/o warranty.

When I picked up my 2009 from a NON-MB dealer they sold me an extended warranty for 3K. which covered me for 3 years or 36K miles. I did not think that was bad for a car that had 50K miles on it. I think the 7K,7Y, 75K would have been crazy also, especially right out of the gate. Hopefully I never need it.

OP: i wouldn't worry about it, to be honest. head bolts is probably the biggest possibility, so contact MBUSA with the VIN and ask them if there is a record of them being replaced. or, ask the seller. other than that, little things here and there can go bad and need replacing, but it most likely won't be near 7k (minus the head bolts replacement job, of course). most niggling issues were probably already sorted during the factory warranty period. I got an MB extended warranty on my 09, and I am actually considering returning it. of course, this is all my opinion and your experience may be different.

I had 1 issue with mine, intake manifold..BUT it was already screwed before I bought the car, but other then that yeah the cars are very reliable, besides parts aren't THAT expensive, alotta guys like to make it seem like every nut and bolt costs a thousand dollars, which isn't true at all

i got an extended warranty til 110k through fidelity, and i'm currently at 85k. (luckily) aside from a fuel pump issue, i haven't used it at all. i'm not sure the price of a fuel pump but i don't think it was $5-6k i think i paid.

The only way to be sure is to contact someone such as Erin Mahre at Mercedes of Santa Rosa, CA, 707-521-3996. When she punches in the pertinent data, MB comes back with a go, no-go decision. In my case on the C63 I can get a 75K, 7Yr, for $3,047. It's also transferable and prorated so that you can get some money back if you decide to drop the ELW.
Cars that go through an auto auction are not able to be extended because NB has no idea what sort of use or abuse the car has been through. It's not clear what else would prevent a car from being able to be extended by MB.
