Super Strong Spoiler Adhesive?
Hello everyone,
I recently have had some trouble installing a spoiler, due to lack of adhesive power. I have had to redo trying to get the spoiler on three times, with the hair dryer and floss method. Sometimes I do not even need to use that method and just pull up on it, and it comes off. Apparently the two ends will not stick to the tape. I have tried three different types of 3M tape and nothing is strong enough to hold down. I have tried the automotive one, industrial, and unfortunately I forget the last one. So, I am here to ask you all what is the strongest tape on the market? Something stronger than the 3M tape, because nothing seems to be holding this **** down. Price is irrelevant right now, all I want is the STRONGEST tape available.
Thank You

3M is the best
You need the right thickness
Yours looks too thick
Some spoilers have a slight recess for the tape
You want it slightly thicker
Clean all surfaces with alcohol
And pre-heat them before taping
Wurth might make tape

When you say pre-heat, which parts are you referring to? As well as the alcohol; Do I apply some to the spoiler where I am putting the tape on it?

Heat all surfaces that get tape Warm not hot
Same for the alcohol cleaning
Wurth makes it
Go to their website
You want very thin like 1 mm or less
Wurth makes a tape you expose
Then stick the part on
Remove the part (some adhesive stays on it)
Then place on car

ford svt's, and C63!!!
I use a propane torch to completely dry and warm up the surfaces, just be careful, and you'll be fine. just foamy 2 sided tape from any auto parts store should be fine. A hair dryer would work as well

I would be nervous using a flame
Heat gun at a distance or hair dryer
Just warm to the touch is good
3M makes various thicknesses
From 30 mil to 90 mil
0.75 mm to 2.25 mm and in between
Do you have a picture of the contact surface of the spoiler?
Mark with masking tape to make sure you are aligned before you put the part on
Have a helper to hold one end up
Place one end down making sure you are aligned and work your way to the other end

Also, I don't understand your Wurth Tape. It's not like the 3M tape?

I have always used 3M UHB ( Ultra High Bond).
Surface prep is most important, make sure it is free of grease, wax, polish and other types of glue.If you can scuff the underside of the spoiler it helps as well.
Hope this helps.

Is it an aftermarket AMG spoiler?
It could be the quality/fitment of the spoiler, preventing it to adhere to the trunk...
I used the grey 3M automotive adhesive tape and its on there good.

Well you can always epoxy it, but it's a ***** to get off. I had a body shop install my carbon spoiler and that's what they used. Couple years later it faded so I had it removed and it was very hard left a few dents (not visible) where they pried it off. Got another spoiler on there now and 3m tape worked fine. I noticed the tech taped the thing down with yellow tape over night to hold it down. Maybe you should try it.

Epoxy is super strong and like mentioned can cause damage during removal.I would use that only if a permanent bond i required.
Along with the 3M UHB i mentioned above you can also use some RTV silicone in spots and tape the spoiler down, leave undisturbed overnight and you should be all set.

Thank you for all your help guys!
It's a JBSPEED aftermarket AMG spoiler.
Also, I don't think I cleaned the surface properly. Can someone please do a followup on what I should do regarding the installation?

Go to 3M website
They have detailed instructions
Basically
Select the correct product: they tell you how to
Clean: they use alcohol wipes
Warm surface: they recommend a heat gun
Align and apply pressure
Tape it down if it lifts
Let set for 4 hours
With all the resources available these days: websites, etc., that instructions can be found on I'd be embaressed asking for help on something so simple
It's not like building an engine lol
Our educational system is broken
Please do not tell me you're an engineer lol

Get some basic reading comprehension and organized thought process
And do your own research and work rather than expecting others to give you a magic solution to a problem most children could solve
I weep for our future

Enough with the bickering already. Make sure it's dry using some sort of clean heat, you can see the paint actually "sweat" if the surface is cool when applying the heat, and if it's clean, it will stick like crazy. I will admit it is tough to get the placement right so it sticks to both vertical, and horizontal planes evenly. Maybe some sort of reference lines with a non permanent marker prior to adding the adhesive tape would work good. to see exactly where it needs to land.

The alignment seems to be not an issue, as it is perfect right now. The problem is it just will not stick so I will have to give that a try!

Prep the surface with alcohol or 3M tape adhesive promoter where the double sided tapes goes (on the spoiler itself & on the trunk).
Just use 1 large strip (or 2 max) on the top & 1 large strip on the bottom of the spoiler. Align, and pull the film out slowly from one end to the other by pressing down on the spoiler.
P.S make sure the spoiler is not warped. U can check by test fitting it w/o tape. If warped, the spoiler will never sit correctly.
