BMW M4 owned by the old C63...

The M4 looks great in person, although I heard the exhaust note this past weekend at 2014 Bimmerfest, and I was not impressed at all. I am not sure if any current/new gen car will have an exhaust note as good as the M156.

I believe that the M4 has its exhaust sound sent to the speakers and enhanced so it doesn't sound so blah when you are inside, same as the M5. I find this very sad... I turn my stereo off to hear my exhaust more clearly!

But I do agree that the W205 will be a more suitable competitor to the F80/F82.

The only difference is that the M4's isn't recorded, it's the real thing being synthesized through the speakers, sorta like what Porsche does on the 991 911, except that engine actually sounds good in the 911 and not a civic without a muffler.

Needless to say, I imagine we all agree that the outgoing AMG bests the lot
Wish they'd looked at things like cylinder deactivation instead of turbos.. AMG volume isn't enough to wreck their CAFE data.

If you guys have been following the spy videos of the AMG GT and the W205 C63, then you would have heard how the exhaust note has evolved over the last few months.
AMG even made a 4 banger sound decent.
That is German engineering... Not some fake sound being pumped through the speakers.

Nothing wrong with turbos and nothing wrong with the engine in the M4. BMW M division just doesn't put the kind of work/research into their cars like AMG does. They build a car and put and exhaust on it and they are done.

I just joined this forum. I have a E92 m3 and i am looking to get a AMG next. I cant stand the way the new F80 M3 is. That engine is nothing special and sounds so ricey.
I am hoping the next C63 will at least have the V8 growl. Then i can deal with the trubos.

If the only thing everyone seems to think is wrong with the car is the SOUND of the engine then they built a damn good car.

You are kidding right? I owned an E90 M3 and now drive a C63 coupe. I am a fan of both AMG AND M with no bias. I can tell you that The M division modifies the standard car as much if not more the AMG modifies the standard C. I agree the SOUND of the engine is a weak point of the F80/F82, but everything else about it seems to be amazing. One could argue that it is AMG that takes the easy road by refusing to make modifications to solve their weak point. The M division at least modifies the chassis to give it a proper track wide enough tires...not to mention a choice of proper transmissions.

Guess what?!? People who buy M3/C63s don't go to the track every day, but they start their car and floor it on a daily basis. I can guarantee you that 90% of M3/C63 buyers only care about how great the car beats up a track a couple times of the year... If at all.
Perhaps the ///M division should tune the exhaust instead of the speakers. <----- get my drift (pun intended)
