My Monster Has Been Killed

My Monster Has Been Killed
On May 16, 2014 I was headed home from downtown Houston like any other day. It was 11pm, weather was decent, I had a long day at work and was happy to just sit in my beast and let her wrap me in warm embrace as we started our drive home.
Downtown speed limits are 30mph and she was still cold, so we were taking it easy, biding our time until we got to the entrance ramp of the highway where I could bid the concrete skyrises a good night in true AMG fashsion.
The lights are timed well where each block goes green just about when you get to it while driving the speedlimit, so as I was approaching St Joseph on Milam (all one ways) the light had politely turned green as i was approaching, keeping at a steady ~25 in 2nd gear giving her a chance to get the juices flowing when some useless texting inattentive driver blew through their red light and assassinated my car and taking us all into another. As my car crinkled and crumpled, i became the meat in a Honda accord sandwich.
In a flash, my front end was deformed and then my passenger window shattered and doors deformed. Then the jackhole that ran the red had the nerve to pull apart from the lump of cars and dry to drive off. I had no chance to follow as I gained another 3000lb mass of an accord on my right side.
Needing to move out of the intersection ourselves, I pulled apart from the remaining limped along out of the intersection to the bus lane and shut her down to inspect the damage.
While my baby did her job and kept me safe, she took quite a few hits. The entire front end was shifted, both front quarter panels deformed, front bumper & headlights smashed, and both passenger side doors caved in.
I started running down the street to find where that pile of human filth drove off to, and as luck would have it, his car died about a block away and the police arrived in time before he could escape.
Sadly, after a month of negotiating and complaining and pleading to the powers that be, both the insurance companies and those up above, my car has succumbed to her injuries and has officially been declared as totaled.
For as frequently as I stood in the parking lot watching the sun shimmer off her silver lines, I didn't take take many pictures. I have one of her after I got Dad's original CF hood put on and one of the back as I put on the Vorsteiner's diffuser & spoiler. But the pictures I do have don't do her justice. I know she's wasn't an F40 or F1 hypercar, but she was mine and she made me happy and some ba$tard took her away from me.
She did her job and kept me safe, it's just a shame I couldn't say the same.
Moral of the story I guess is enjoy 'em while you've got 'em.
<strike>Also, I've got my authentic Vorsteiner diffuser that did survive the crash. It was in perfect condition until the uncaring tow truck driver unceremoniously carried away my car.
It now has 2 scratches on the bottom. not visible from normal angles when installed, but visible when looking. The damaged sections are highlighted. Anything else is a trick of the light. I can provide further pics if necessary. Eyes are a bit blurry atm tho, I'm blaming it on a freak sand storm...
I have no idea what it's worth, but i'm open to offers. All the tabs are perfect, fitment was awesome, it even has a "pre-installed" (for you) mounting bracket ready to be used.</strike>
UPDATE: Deal pending for the diffuser, will know by Friday
UPDATE 2: I also forgot I've got my original iridium silver OEM hood. I'm not sure I want to sell it, it might become wall art, but it's available to anyone who needs it. I've had it off the car for a year now stored at the body shop i use, but last memory was perfect condition...I'm usually demanding about things like that. Can get pics if requested.
Pics of it all attached.
Anyway, in memory of my 2011 C63 Sedan, thanks for reading.

So sorry to hear! Driving in the city, especially in the winter makes it very nerve racking due to stupid drivers.
At the end of the day the only thing that matters is you/your passengers are safe.

Man first many thanks to GOD for protecting you. I feel very bad you. I really dont consider this an accident. This was neglected and distracted driving. And this should not go unpunished because this could easily of have been much much worse. Makes me more an alert driver especially as a father.
I know you loved you car and I hope you get something else that makes you happier.
Life is short, thank god, move on and fight the good fight to get every dollar you deserve.

that sucks royally. glad you are physically ok. that guy will get screwed due to texting, and also the expensive price tag of the amg. what are you thinking of replacing it with, another c63?

Thanks everyone for the kind words, I appreciate it. Looking at a 2014 C63 to replace, but haven't decided yet.
It was crazy how the process went. The initial estimates started out about $13k, then steadily rose to about $35k.
I'm not sure what was worse...seeing the end coming for my car as the inspection got more detailed, or being stuck with a base Nissan Altima 2.5 for the last month...
Anyway, Keith (DadsC63) deserves a shout out for being so helpful. I contacted him to try and get a replacement hood when I thought it was going to get repaired and he was very friendly and responsive and understanding to the situation. It's still an awesome design and did cut my temps down a few points. Sadly don't need a new one now, but anyone else still interested in such things, don't hesitate to contact him.
I figure the new w205 C63's are too far out, and I can't handle this Altima anymore, is the only replacement another c63?

You walked away brother, thats all that matters.
The car can be replaced. Hoping everything works out.

On a positive note, the ******* that hit you was caught and had insurance and apparently compensated you. I was rear ended on 3 occasions in 20 months in my last car, an M3. Two of the three accidents I had to pay for because of the wonderful insurance laws in Texas. Good luck with your next car.

To add to the mess, the guy who hit me was a Mexican national with no insurance...
So looks like I'll be footing my deductible at least and it sure is causing things to move SLOWLY through my insurance.
The fun just keeps on coming with this.
Thanks everyone for the support though.

oh, hell no. that's serious bs. that explains why he tried to run away from the scene. I'd try to sue the guy personally and not use your insurance. he's got to at least have some cash to his name lying around that can go towards compensating you. I'd hang this dumbass out to dry.
Regardless, I hope OP has uninsured / underinsured motorist coverage!!

Yea, that and the rental car bill for the last month...fun.
At this point, i could have leased the Nissan Alttima 2.5 S for a few months and still come out ahead.
I saw this at the local MB dealership and though I'd like to reintroduce myself to my new mexican friend.

All that armoring.. and regular tires.. that was stupid. Very expensive road block when your tires get shot out in suburban Houston
Also, most policies by default (especially if you have full coverage due to car payment) will have uninsured riders on them. I know in VA (where I lived when my car got smashed up), uninsured deductable is 200 vs my regular 500, and is should not effect your overall rate.
