Wrapping/Removing Estate Roof Rails

Hi all,

I know this will have a limited support base on this forum, but I'm looking at wrapping my window trim and included in this, will be wrapping my roof rails. The window trim is easier because the overhang can tuck in under the rubber seals - however the roof rails isn't so easy as there doesn't appear to be anywhere the vinyl can tuck into.

Does anyone know if there's an easy way to remove the roof rails? I'd imagine it would be bolted down through the roof but was hoping it would be easier than that.

Cheers,
Linh

I had them wrapped on the car by a pro.
It was too time-consuming to take them off because the headliner needed to come off.

i had a feeling that was the case.

can you take some close up photos of the wrap and where the ends are (similar to my photos)? because there isn't anywhere to tuck the vinyl into, i was wondering how yours are cut and how they've held up over time.

As someone who just recently went through the ordeal of wrapping the window trim on a coupe (by removing it, as tucking it in I think would be really, really, really tough), I caution you on wrapping without removing the trim. See other threads for more detail, and how to remove the trim, but IMO you'll most likely end up with a better end product if you at least remove the window trim. Sorry, I'm no help with the rails, maybe they are easier left in place. But I'd pull the trim as much as a pain in the a** it was... Just my 2 cents

Just did it quickly (like a 3 mins job)

You know, i think it looks weird without them. I think keep them on, and just wrap them.

I hate estates without roof rails. It's popular among the Audi crowd, but I don't get it. To me the car looks like it was shaved...

So here are the pics - the vinyl was applies 4 years ago so I have to say I am very happy with the durability. We used Oracal Satin Black vinyl. It matches the black parts of the roof rack perfectly.
