C63 507 Australia

Are there many Australians on this forum? I recently acquired a 507 sedan (1500klms on clock). I've come across from an M3 and absolutely love the car, suits me better for daily driving.

Anyway, if anyone has any tips for getting traction lol, the best stereo settings and any modifications that would be appreciated!

There are a few Aussies on here. Maybe about 8 active approx?

What M3 did you have? E90/92/93?

My best friend has E92, and he doesnt much care for our C63s. We swap often enough, and i must say, the M3 handles so much better. Revs much nicer (not the sound, just the rev range), but not as much "pull" as our C63's [Torque].

Anyway, as for traction, start with decent tyres. Having only 1500kms on it, then they would be factory im guessing, with decent tread?
Many people go wider than the skinny 255's on the rears. 275s seem to be the popular choice on 19s. That helps considerably.

Post some pics up.
Any mods planned? Or content on enjoying it as it for a while?

Congrats on welcome.
Wealth of info on here for future mods.

What M3 did you have? E90/92/93?

I had a 2009 E90. It had a tune and an Akrapovic full exhaust system. Don't get me wrong, it was a great car, but I feel the C63 suits my needs better. Even though the two cars are competition, I feel they couldn't be more different.
I felt with the M3 you had to drive spiritedly to get the most out of it, and on the street as a daily driver I felt like I was driving more of a race car! The C63 does feel a lot heavier, but more of a comfortable cruiser with plenty of grunt on tap.

Anyway, as for traction, start with decent tyres. Having only 1500kms on it, then they would be factory im guessing, with decent tread?

Yeah the car has the factory Contintentals, and with traction control on, the car sometimes locks up to much. Also if I take off quickly from the traffic lights the wheels will just spin, so I can't see the tyres lasting long.

Post some pics up.

I'll get some pics up. I'm used to the power already, are the tunes worth it? And especially on a 507?

Off the top of my head, I've got bass set to max and treble third or fourth down from max with logic turned on. However, I have an estate which has a different sub configuration so bass might be different and more pronounced because of the hatch.

Good to have you on-board.
There is a regional area on this site that is probably worth subscribing to:
https://mbworld.org/forums/asia-oceania-115/

There is also a local site that may be of interest:
Club AMG Australia (Google it).

My recommendation for priority & best value mods ...
- Sticky tyres (ideally wider on wider rims)
- Limited slip diff (if you don't already have one)
- Headers (I like the IPE brand)
- Tune (I like OE Tuning)

Enjoy your new toy - but beware of the predisposition for addiction to power & sound.

Welcome aboard.

Quite a few aussies around.

When it comes to mods, the options are endless. It really comes down to what you are trying to achieve and how much you want to spend.

Performance mods: Bang for your buck would be a tune. Talk to Weistec, Eurocharged or OE Tuning.

Visual mods: Depends what look you want to go for. You could get CF front lip and rear diffuser, talk to Mode Carbon, JL Motoring or Sunveer. You can also put on some H&R Springs and spacers to get a nicer stance.

Let us know what ideas you have and there are enough people around to point you in the right direction.

Happy modding.

Thanks everyone
Didn't know there was this many Aussies

Is a tune worth it with the 507 model?

On the BMW Idrive I could split the screen between say, GPS and music. Is this possible on command? Or do you have to have one feature on the command screen and the other on the smaller screen between the speedo and rev counter? Hope this makes sense.

I'm pretty happy with the stock 507 wheels, so if I can get a 275 tyre on their that would be good.

^^^ I have some spacers for sale if you need any

I would speak to oe eurocharged or wiestec regarding tuning
I don't think there would be much gain on a 507

But if your putting on some headers then you will get some gains for sure

Welcome to the AMG world!
There are quite a few Aussies on the board - possibly a few more on Club AMG.

You can't split the screen but as you say, you can have one thing displayed in the main Command screen and another in the smaller one.

I suspect the gains from a tune on the 507 will be limited but contact a couple of the providers for their input. For my part I am very happy with Eurocharged.

Does the 507 have an LSD? If not that should be your first port of call for better traction. I have just installed a WaveTrac in mine and the additional traction is considerable.

You can go up at least one size on rear tyre width with some pepole going 2 sizes to 275. If you are prepared to lose your lovely 507 rims go aftermarket 19 x 10 +52 offset with 275/30/19 tyres.

The Michelin Pilot Super Sports are probably the most highly rated tyre by the C63 forum members. Buy them from Tirerack or a grey importer like Tempe Tyres (I have used both and the Tempe stock was fresh new productiion) as the retail in Australia is pure extortion.

Congratulations!

I picked up a 507 just a couple of weeks ago, too, and currently running it in.
Was a little disappointed that it didn't come with an LSD as standard.
I think that's what I'll be saving up for first..

Throw up some pics.

Plenty of Aussies here

For the stereo I fade it back 2 notches, bass about 1 or 2 tabs above half way and the treble about 3 tabs above bass. I also turn on the surround sound etc

Hey mate, another fellow aussie here.

Does your car have factory LSD?

You'll need to learn to use the throttle properly. Taking off (without traction control on) and spinning the wheels is simply because of driver control. It has a lot more Torque than your old M3.

I've owned both cars. My M3 was Supercharged and still didn't feel as though it had as much Torque as the C63 when my AMG was standard. (now it's heavily modified)

Get used to driving the car, get to know the car and you'll be ok.

You can fix the traction with wider tyres etc but that's only going to help and not solve the issue.

Traction WILL always kick in, especially in the wet. It is very sensitive (confessed by Mercedes themselves) but once again you'll need to get to know your car better.

I never drive with traction control on because i find it dangerous if i'm trying to pull out of a street and it kicks in. I also have factory LSD which does help, if you don't have LSD you can always think about going down the path of Wavetrac (i was going to get one to replace my factory LSD but decided to keep the OEM)

So in my opinion get to know the car, the power, the throttle and you'll be fine

Congratulations on the new purchase.

For any future mods I couldn't recommend Weistec enough!

Weistec Engineering are the one and only for me!

I'd recommend either of their Supercharger Kits if you really want to go nuts, as in my opinion they outperform the competitors.

If you want the car to come alive i recommend Headers/Exhaust/Air Filters/Tune then S/C etc if that's what you're after.

Gluck !!

Hey RawBenz, I'm not really sure if I have the LSD or not, probably not, but how do I tell? I know what you mean about the throttle, I'm not sure if it's more sensitive than the M3 or it's just the extra torque, but it's taken me a while to get used to, feels like it's either on or off

I've been trying sport mode for the traction control, and find this better if you can hook it properly off the mark or a rolling run.

It's great to see so many Aussie AMG enthusiasts!

Hey Hurricane,

To me i honestly think you don't have LSD because your car is all over the joint. It would have much more traction if it did have LSD. That's why in my opinion it's taken you by surprise because the M3 has a good LSD and is fine tuned for the track (has better handling) than the raw brute force of the C63. (especially without LSD)

You can find out by taking your car to Mercedes or a workshop, looking at the Order papers (because it's an additional $$$ option believe it or not) or by simply doing this.. (i know it sounds silly)

But drop a burnout, turn the steering, if it leaves two continuouslines then you have LSD. If it has two lines that drop off into one then you don't. I know with LSD no matter how you drop a burnout and swing it sideways you'll always have two lines no matter what. Without LSD the two lines will be there then one will drop off.

Most C63's with or without LSD will bag up both wheels until you turn the steering (this is because of the ABS engagement or some technical bulls*hit) But once you turn the steering it usually goes from two lines to one.

Sport Mode is better to drive with because it allows some play but still has your back if you want to put it that way.

It's a lot less sensitive.

Rolling run with these cars is the best, otherwise you'll leave smoke and lines for hundreds of metres if you just stamp on it. So building it up and then stamping on it is the best, then it's just a matter of straightening it up rather than spinning all over the place.
