Tinting windows .... even worth it ?
Hey guys... so of course I really want to tint my new car's windows... but we have this stupid 70% window tint law here in Quebec.... Do you think it's even worth it? I checked video/pic comparisons and you can barely notice any difference? I don't know if I should take the risk of going darker since the cops here are complete douches lol.
Anyone actually got pulled over for having windows tinted too much?

We have a "No Tint" law here in Pennsylvania...
I am at 5%, I get passed daily by local police and have yet to be pulled over in the C... Knock on wood.

Of course tint's are illegal in Alberta as well and I've got mine around 40%. No issues so far and I had all my previous cars around the same percentage. No issues then either, but of course it could happen any time. So if you do tint there is always a possibility that you could get ticketed.

Like Autosport7 I'm in Pennsylvania, the tint law is really strict depending on where you live or what you drive. I have a Touareg and the only window anyone can see in or out of is the windshield. No issues ever, in my tuned Jetta I was pulled over three times in about an hour closer to Philadelphia the car was registered in Texas so never had to take off the tint.
I think it largely depends on the officer and the area. I have a friend who is a cop and he will never pull someone over for tint "" but another officer he works with looks for tinted windows as an excuse to check/spy on the driver.
I want to tint the C63 but the area I live in now has me a bit worried.

Worth it all day and night. I personally love the look and the privacy factor. 15% all around and would go darker.
Btw I also live in an area where it's illegal to tint, but plenty of cars drive around with dark tint. I just try to be aware of cops nearby and roll down windows when I can.

if you are after heat rejection, and willing to pony up the $, definitely. here in texas, where freedom is more free than air, darkness isn't really enforced. most people buy dark tint thinking it will block out heat. to an extent, yes, but you should check out huper optic. the difference is night and day. pun intended? it just so happens they have a 70% tint too.

PA is really tricky. Ive been told by state troopers that there really isn't a law, and thats its realy complicated but there isn't a no tint rule, its just what they enforce. I have a house in PA and I drive my toureg that has 30% all around with PA plates and no problem. You're more likely to get pulled over for a registration sticker than tints

window tint is the way to go! especially with leather seats! helps dissipate the heat that comes through the windows! I have 3% on the rear windows and back window and 5% in the front and also have 50% on my windshield and 5% for my AS1 line.. lol love it cant see anything in it day or night! and yes ive gotten pulled over but its always a warning and I am very cautious of cops around me.. roll them down when I see them!

PA tint law
http://www.dmv.state.pa.us/pdotforms...ets/fs-sun.pdf
Most cops I know, and I know more than a few, excercise their judgement
They want to be able to see inside the vehicle
If you give them cause to pull you over you will most likely be ticketed for the tint
Otherwise they probably won't hassle you
But they can if they choose to
The inspection stations are supposed to fail you for tint

great thread. currently living in NJ, where there is a well documented no tint law, I figured I was out of luck. I'm moving to NY, however, so gotta check what the laws there are. I'd love to get some tint as my new black rig has become an oven on some days. I'll have to do some tint research now too, it looks like folks in the thread have chosen all different %s for side/rear/front. It sounds like in states where there are no tint laws it's a bit of a gamble, but I'm betting that since we're driving a "luxury" car we get proportionally hassled less than some poor guy in a less-expensive ride. AKA profiling (not that I'm a fan of this or want to start some sort of political discussion, which I definitely DON'T). Just saying.

There are tints that reject UV and offer thermal insulation/reflectivity and don't really reduce light transmission, ie, darker
What is the factory tint?
Guessing 70% transmission
When you add tint the total is additive correct?
If the car is 70 and you add 30 isn't the net 0.3 x 0.7 = 0.21??

I have crystalline tint all-around 40%, pano 40%, front windshield 90%. I haven't been pulled over yet... but as a user said above, cops just want to see inside the car so if I see one, I open my windows or let light in through the pano.

I've got 3M Ceramic Tint 30% all around on mine. Love it. And it significantly reduces heat from the sun.

Ever since I've been checking videos and images .... It kind of looks like maybe the car came with 70% factory tinted windows? I read alot of manufacturers do that. Because somehow the car windows doesn't seem to be entirely transparent .... If so... that means I can't apply any tint on them

They are definitely tinted
Look at a sheet of white paper thru it
There are a bunch of standardized numbers on each window
It is coded
You can probably find the tint with them
The date is st the bottom dots and numbers

I have limo tint( 1 layer of 5%) all around except windshield. On the windshield I have 35% on the entire glass. Knock on wood, I have yet to be pulled over.
Here in Florida, the police are not strict about it due to the intense heat in the summer.

NY has tint laws as well. I think as long as the front window is 50% you're okay though, I don't really remember.
I've always had tints and if I get pulled over I roll all my windows down and turn on interior lights. Police like this so they can see everything. I also keep my paperwork in a very accessible place so I can have all of that in my hands by the time they get to the window.
I get that it's debatable to dig around before they get to your window, but I'd rather that than go digging when they are there.
That all said, I haven't had a ticket in the past 6-7 years but been pulled over maybe 3-4 times.

Most cops will wait in the car while they run yours
This gives you time to grab your papers and put your hands on the wheel
I keep mine in the visor clip
Haven't been pulled over for at long time
Knock on wood lol

Depends where in NY, if you're in the city, you have a high chance of getting pulled over, otherwise bronx, bk, queens you'll never get pulled over just for tints
