"Hey peeps,
Was driving down the dual carriageway when at the lights, a mercedes c class pulled up next to me, thinking it was a crappy 320d i decided to give it the beans as he was egging me on too.
Little did i know it was a c63 amg.......... :-(
I could not keep up with him, felt rather deflated. "

I am an Aussie doing 3 weeks on the road in the US next July. Is there a website or like that details which states are harsh on speeding etc?
I will likely be travelling through Texas, Louisiana, Mississipi, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, N & S Carolina, Tennessee and a run from San Francisco to LA in California. Any of these require special care re my speed?

yeah, in all of those states, if you have out of State plates, you will suffer harsh penalties.

Haha same here, any M's actually. Most take bait, the older M3's tell me they just wanted to see & hear me take off knowing they were going to lose. I ran my buddies full bolt on (Tune, pulley, full x-pipe exhaust with HFC's) E92 M3 & beat him by a good 2-3 car lengths. Lately there's been a lot of new M5's & M6's popping up in my area, had a chance to run one, dead even from 50-100mph Originally Posted by OlegKouz

Texas has the highest limits, 85MPH in some areas. I would stay below 100MPH and under 25MPH over any limits and you should be able to stay out of jail and keep your car if you get pulled over by police. You will get a large ticket. But who cares. You are out of the country by the time they try to come after you for not paying. Originally Posted by GRP

You can search Wikipedia about speed limits in USA and I think you'll find some helpful information on all those states.

I'm pretty sure a lot of cars get smoked by c63 on daily basis, if they all make a post about it it would make up an large portion of the internet.

Thats funny

Texas does have the highest limits with lots of roads posted at 75 and long stretches where traffic is running 90, but 25 over will unquestionably get you busted. 10 over the limit is safe pretty much anywhere. Best bet if you're gonna go more than that is to invest in a good radar detector. Cities are more likely to have patrols than open country (and we've got a lot of the latter). Be kind as you pass through small towns with reduced speed limits - the locals will appreciate it and you're also much less likely to get snagged by a speed trap. If you've got a smartphone you can use here, download an app like Waze and get your copilot to watch it closely.Originally Posted by PkB2014

Nothing to do with speed limits, but try to minimize use of the interstate highways. They are an efficient way to travel but most are boring and sterile. Try some back roads.

Yes. 25MPH will get a ticket no doubt, as I stated, big ticket. I was giving limits to where the "go to jail and impound car" limit is for most states. I think most states call it reckless driving. He can always try the ignorant foreigner routine. But staying below 10MPH over the posted speed will be safe for 99% of the main highways. Small towns sometimes are more strict because they know you won't come back for court and will just pay it.Originally Posted by zcct04

The cars are different, not sure why people get a hard on about AMG vs M vs RS. They all bring different things to the table.

I disagree slightly. AMG M and RS are performance divisions of the respective manufacturers (although I would technically equate RS with the AMG BS series, and the regular S with the AMG).Originally Posted by Bardman

They actually all bring the same thing to the table, take a regular model, and upgrade it. Obviously they do that in different ways, and some are better than others during the various model cycles.
But make no mistake, they all look at each other and try to one up each other in the various classes they compete in. In some, AMG is the monster (stock for stock, the C63 is better than a M3 and definitely better than an A4), move up to the E Class/5 Series / A6, and I would say the M5 beats out the E63 (at least when it was still that monster V10)...
Point being, they do things differently, but they bring the same thing to the table... Vehicle ****

So why have a press event with a fast car in a state as hard line as VA?
