507 edition vented bonnet vs C63 coupe facelift bonnet

Hey guys

I'm really wanting the 507 bonnet for my c63, though I wish not to drop $6000+ on buying a new 507 bonnet. I was thinking buying the vent inserts and having my existing bonnet cut to fit the vents.

Are the specifications the same between the 507 and standard C63?

Are there any implications and harm I need to be aware of if I am to proceed down this track?

Many thanks and looking forward to some insight.

I'm interested in this as well. Has anyone cut the stock hood and used the vents? Is it even doable?

Not doable on the Stock C63 Hood /Bonnet.

There are support bars that you will have to cut out as well under the hood.

The OEM BS hood also have vent trays to divert water as well. The mode carbon replica is probably pretty good. Just go that route and get a whole new bonnet / hood.

^ exactly this. Mode carbon has a beautiful CF hood for less than the OEM 507/BS. Go for it

Thanks heaps for your help.
So there is absolutely no way to cut out the hole for vent including the support bar?

The mode carbon bonnet is still too expensive to ship down to Australia.

Anyone try this yet? I'm just going to cut. How important can hood supports be.

Not extremely, though I believe modification of vehicle supports of any kind are "illegal" (As you're changing how it will react in an accident, possibly not crumpling favourably. Considering it's an aluminium hood, I for one would trust the superstructure to be intact with minor modification.

If you cut those supports, make sure you have a dash cam. I want to see what it looks like if your hood peels back on the freeway!

I can't believe people will cut corners when it comes to safety... just to get an aesthetic upgrade

Can always work around the supports. The vents don't have to be in the exact same location. Might be interesting to see if they can be part of a cold-air intake of sorts....

The vents are actually air outlets. They help keeping the temps under the hood down by letting hot air escape.
