VP101 Race Fuel Review

I was near my local gas station today that carries VP101. I was right at a 1/8 tank of fuel and figured wth, let's see what this stuff can do. I filed up and put about 30 miles on her today and decided to hammer it down once I figured the car had adapted to the extra octane.
I was surprised that I did actually notice a bit of a difference as I will be the first to admit I was skeptical. At the end of the day, is it worth it for daily driving, no... But for those moments when you find yourself in a situation where the extra ponies could come in handy, it may just edge out an otherwise slightly overpowered competitor.
The *** end came out far easier today than normal, it always comes out easie, but this was noticeable for sure.

I also noticed both tires left black on the asphalt... I was under the impression my car did not have LSD, but now I wonder...

Thanks for reading. Hope this answers a few questions out there.

Not a 100hp gain, but def noticed a lil something extra.

From what I read about race gas/higher octane, you don't really get any boost in HP...especially if your ECU isn't programmed for higher octane. It won't be able to fully utilize it. I do agree that it feels a lot faster than normal pump gas however. I've used 101 octane before and it ran smoother than a baby's bottom!

I'm still learing the ins and outs of the M156 but, any engine management system that employs a knock sensor will alter timing based on detected knock. When knocking occurs timing is retarted and hp is lost.
If compared to what you regularly run the VP101 reduced knock, ignition timing would not have retarded and the engine will make more power.

Yep you would need to have a tune to take advantage of higher octane fuel.
Interesting you felt the car more responsive.... butt dyno...

I have talked to a few tuners and yes the race tune will def utilize the higher octane to its fullest potential, but the higher octane should result in a few extra horses even on a stock tune according to my sources.
I wouldn't go as far to say I noticed a power increase, more so just that it felt like the *** came out a tad bit easier, end result would be more power, but if I was hooking up and just blazing down the street I doubt I would have noticed anything at all.

Cars run better - particularly this car - with race gas period. There's no question about it. No need for a tune necessarily. You can say what you want, but I have timeslips to prove it.

The VP101 should come with a coupon for a discount on new tires. You're gonna need rears sooner than expected.

Nice car odonnks

I'm surprised you can feel a few extra hp in a 500hp car. You must have the *** of Niki Lauda.

Nice!

Wish I had access to some in my area. Definitely worth a try.

My car power feels more linear when using race fuel when I have my street tune on. It definitely makes a difference when you're tuned for it though. My MS109 OETune file is a big difference all across the band when its loaded vs 91/109 mix on my standard file.

By the way, the debate on this is totally over. At the track last night, exact same conditions and everything, I trapped 3mph faster with race gas than with Sunocco 93 octane. Stock tune. Debate over.

C63 Edition 507
Validation

I know this is an old post, but I am an Edition 507 owner- all stock and intend to run it stock for its entire life.

Ive tried SUNCO racing 100 octane fuel and there is a difference. The engine is more responsive and without a question, better performance. Upgrades to Michelin PSS and the 507s true potential comes out and crushes the manufactures 0-60 times I have a problem keeping it under 80 doing a quick 0-60 run! If you don't look at the odometer the entire time- she jumps very quickly from 45-50 mph to 80 with those two basic changes that are well worth it!

Did you mix 91 with 101? or how much did you fill the 101 octane for? Full tank?

I did full tank on my old 2012 C63 no performance package. It did not make a significant difference than how is has performed with the 507. So, with the 507 I did a difference approach. Since, the engine wants a min 93 octane.

In the beginning (after about 2-3k miles on the brand new 507 engine)- I did 80% 91 and 20% 100- you can start to feel the difference in just how much more responsive the engine was right away. It actually idles much smoother when adding 100 or 101 octane. I did this just to see how the car ran- and the results kept getting better when getting more aggressive with the mix. The most I've done- and do it occasional is 50/50 mix. 0-60 times get in the mid-low/mid 3's consistently, if not better (when achieving max tire grip on track conditions/surface).

Thus far, I have 11.4k total miles (almost 2 years now, bought it brand new in 2013 of course) on the Edition 507 and been running 100 and 101 octane with mix of 91 for at least 5-6k miles, if not a lil more actually if I think about it. Car, even with people/extra weight in it- runs amazingly quick and pulls like no other C63 that comes out the box can.

dead thread i know...Sorry folks newbie here so its new to me

A 3 mph gain is amazing ! this simply blows my mind, i am very much into 1/4 mile racing and to pick up that much trap speed does not usually come easy or cheap ... i plan to try this same test in the spring with my stock c63.

BTW... i just put some 101 in the tank yesterday, idles better, fact is... 11.3 to 1 will like higher oct.
