Great question. Why, cause you don't like filling up every other day? I've enjoyed getting to really know well my local gas station attendants...

Ive said it many many times......couldnt care less about the gas mileage really. Its stopping at the pump every third day that gets to be annoying.

And re the mileage:

I recently had someone corner me at a party when she heard my car mentioned in conversation and try to give me the "gas guzzling v8" shame trip (sanctimonious woman in her late 50's who drives a Prius so not a surprise).
I asked her if she thought that oil was a finite or infinite supply item. She said "finite of course. You know we are going to run out". So you don't think we will stop before all the oil is gone?. "No" she says, "we are going to go until every last drop available is squeezed out of this planet".

"I agree" I told her. "The only part I can't figure out is why you care if its me that burns it, and why you think I should give it up so some guy you've never met can have it".

Aaaaaaaand conversation over.

If you are determined, its not all that hard.

PS. You see the kid in my signature who is smoking? Yeah. Don't do that with the red auxiliary "tank" installed.

Oh, no! The solution needs to be elegant engineering, safe and practical. Where is Ingenieur, when we need him?

Lol I think he is on suspension!
Either way what are you trying to do with that auxiliary tank?

Only checking whether there is a simple way to get more range. I'd like to have more than 190 - 240 miles per tank!

If it's a matter of (and I think it is) burning into big strip of bacon after getting t-boned by somebody texting or stopping every second day to fill up I'm going with the latter...I'm used to it by now. I can't see how an add-on tank can be safely engineered into the equation. And I can't give up any trunk space either.

Ingenieur on suspension! Oh no. I think he'd say this:

Alright sugar britches
don't get your panties in a bunch little cowpoke
since PV=nRT, if we decrease the pressure in tank
then we can increase volume

no, but seriously it would be nicer to have a larger tank. And not some rigged plastic jug either that I'd surely blow myself to bits with

Agreed. And as I wrote, I am concerned about increasing range, not improving gas mileage. And it would have to be a clean, safe solution. Apparently nobody has done it (yet).
