Anyone think this is NOT enough contact on the crank pulley? Ignore the skipped idlers, unsure if I'd use both or just one, and/or which one. Really depends on belt lengths available.

EDIT: The other option is this routing BUT less wrap around the water pump pulley.

That looks like about 50% less contact on the crank pully. Not sure if that'll work well.

I'm thinking there's absolutely no way to delete the PS pump pulley with how everything is routed. Either a gutted unit or custom bracket to install an idler is the only option.

Might be worth changing the tensioner while your there, they tend to be the cause of alot of broken belts when they lose their tension. Easy to change and cheap also

Not enough. Just put a dummy pulley on there like we discussed.

This is an attempt to simulate the manual rack before getting to a "no return" point.

If I could bypass the pump with a smaller belt and empty the rack, I could get a good idea on how it would feel.

You've had the ESP module issues where it cuts out PS. How much different would you expect it to feel from that ? Or are you specifically wanting to know what it feels like on track before you remove the rack all together ?

Ah right. But even if you bypass it, won’t you still be steering against the fluid sitting in the rack? Do you think it will be a fair assessment? I would think that a dead power steering rack would feel heavier than what you’re going for. Are you going to fully convert it to a manual rack, or just run it without the assist? I’m confused sorry.

You should start with unplugging the speed assist.

Major unknown so it's just a wild guess that it would feel similar.

Correct. Bypassing the pump with a shorter belt and emptying the rack would be a quick "test" and be fairly close to reality.

I'd drain the rack and leave the lines open. Pushing air through an empty line would be close to manual feeling.

Already know what that feels like so if the system stays that's what I will do.

Hi Jason, did you get to the bottom of this belt issue with a/c delete?.
Ive done the same thing as i race mine too, twice it has shredded the belt, first time ripping trans pipe from cooler and water hose to tank.... a bit messy. Any input would be great before i start hashing things. Also thinking about remote mounting power steer reservoir to lessen the heat.
cheers

3 Canadian track seasons so maybe 10-15 track days. Trailer to/from the track though.

what belt did you use for this?
