Illuminated star

Looking to buy a blacked out grill but want the illuminated star instead of what comes with the grill.....I see on some of the aftermarket grills the star can be changed to silver or black....will the illuminated star fit instead??? Any info would be much appreciated

There was a member here with a LCI/facelift single-bar grille and he had the OEM MB Illuminated Start retrofitted to his car.

It is only compatible with non-DISTRONIC grilles, AFAIK.

This and that.
It does work on pre facelift grilles as far as I know. I got a quote just today from my local dealer for $1400 installed. A big joke I thought considering the part only costs $400 or so. These *****s are always trying to rip you off.

Skip to 2:20 to see how this one was installed on a CLA. Looks pretty simple.
He even comments on how dealers want to charge $800 for the install. I bet it didn't take an hour.

Looked into one at my dealership. $600 (my wholesale account rate). With 5 hours quoted for install. I told them I would do it myself and the parts guy wouldn't sell it to me.

We've done some serious electrical retrofits, an illuminated star won't be a problem...

You can purchase genuine MB illuminated stars on Amazon. I've seen them for the CLA for under $400. (USD).

The illuminated star can be tapped into your DRL / Parking light. Its a 1 hour job tops. The MB dealerships are nuts trying to charge 4-6 hrs labor for this thing.

That's what the guy did in that video with his CLA.

I purchased the illuminated star kit on ebay (thru Keenan Motors I believe). The install took about 2 hours, including the wiring. I don't know why the parts guy can refuse a sale of a part. I would complain directly to his/her supervisor.

I posted the MB StarTek instructions on the W204 sedan forums some time ago. I have been pleased with it.

I hardly deal with them, it's not worth my time. Especially since they are the only dealership we hold a merchant account with haha.

2007 CLS-550
Does anybody here know how I can modify the OEM illuminated star kit to fit a 2007 CLS-550? I've been to the dealer, but they tell me there is no kit for my car, only newer models. I thought the star medallion on these cars are pretty much the same diameter. My belief is that it should be possible to modify an illuminated star kit intended for another model and make it fit my 2007 CLS. I have no idea where to start or who to ask... I WANT ONE OF THESE, GHETTO LOOKING OR NOT! :-)
