measuring brake rotor thickness with caliper
if i use a vernier caliper such as this one:

... to measure thickness, how does it clear the outer lip that forms on the rotor? is this the wrong type of caliper? i would think the measuring surfaces would need to be bowed out a bit so that it can clear the outer ridge lip and then come back to center to measure the rotor surface (which is thinner than the outer lip).

Caliper works fine. Just add a couple quarters to each side of the rotor so the caliper clears the lip. Then measure the quarters used and subtract from the measurement of the rotor with quarters.
