C63 Supercharger Reliability

Hey guys I'm thinking about getting a blower on my 12 c63. Just concerned whether the car can handle the supercharger in the long term or am I asking for trouble. Is it high maintenance and troublesome for the rest of the car (engine/tranny) in the long run. Thanks.

I don't have personal experience with the blower, but from what I gather from the members on here that do have it, it's pretty reliable (with the exception of one in particular, which was a bit controversial if the fault was in the blower/Weistec at all).

Speaking in general, whenever you add more power (i.e. stress) to the engine, reliability will be compromised. However, the M156 is a pretty damn resilient engine, and can take a blower no problem. You might have to reinforce a few components though...most likely the transmission.

Ive been running stage 3 on a stock engine with ARP studs for 25,000km without any mechanical issues, besides blowing the tranny within 5 days (which was to be expected).

I drive this car daily in the summer. Ive taken it on 3000km road trips, out through the mountains and to the coast, no problems, wouldn't even know its on there till you press the go fast pedal.

Out of curiosity, how much did it cost you to replace the tranny Merc63?

Transmission and diff will eventually need to be upgraded

You have a 12 so your auto will be ok but just put some cash on the side just in case

My tranny only lasted 2 weeks with a stage 2

Thanks guys. It's probably not worth it. I'm in Australia and its super expensive as it is to install let alone upgrading the tranny and any other in unexpected things that might come from the added stress of all that power. Cheers.

Haha well let me know your thoughts when you get it done. What have/ will you upgrade on your car other than the supercharger? The thought of 10.5 in quarter mile is super tempting.

If you have the MCT tranny it should hold the power. It will for sure hold stage 2. Get the valve body done which is easier.

I have a 2008 C63. Had a Stage 2 supercharger for ~12,000km. Stock tranny, dozens of 1/4 mile runs, lots of 10.7 & 10.8 passes, not an issue.

Sorry, lazy english. I still have it on, no plans to upgrade it yet, but I am thinking about it. The power is addictive.

start saving for the built tranny. 08-11's (non mct) arent going to hold stage 2 power for to long. It'll start with a slipping 2-3 or 3-4. i got about 16-20k mi before needing repaired. It drove fine unless it was full throttle though.

I have owned 4 different Wesitec supercharges. I regualrly track all three of my current Weistec Supercharged vehicles and have racked up a lot of street adn highway miles on my C BS and SLS BS. I have not had any reliability issues with either of them. A couple of the comments before mine mentioning transmission issues are accurate if you end up going with high boost on a stock tranny. Weistec will let you know if they recommend their tranny upgrade with whichever power package you decide to go with. If you are going with the Stage 3 then you should defineatly plan on going with the trans upgrade, however is you go stage 1 or low boost the stock tranny can easliy handle the power.

Hi JR

Regarding the stage 1 and stage 2 application on 7g transmission it depends on condition and age of transmission

Mine didn't last long at all but there are a few guys that are driving around on a standard transmission

Pot luck I say

Assuming I went Stage 2 and had to upgrade my tranny as well since I have 7g, would I be getting the added benefit the MCT brings to the table with faster shift times changing from the 7g to the weistec, or purely hardened internals to withstand the power.

follow up questions to clarify- any shifting differences from a wesitec pfl and a wesitec fl tranny/software differences? hopefully my question makes sense

It's shifts faster but no where close to the MCT.
