2011 C63 P31
2011 C63 to 2014 Viper or 2015 Z06?

I am flirting with the idea of picking up a new SRT Viper. Does anyone here have any experience with a 2013+ Viper? If so, I would love to hear your thoughts on it

Besides the obvious differences, how does the overall driving and ownership experience compare to a C63 (I have a 2011 P31).

Another option is to pick up a 2015 Z06. Has anyone here made that transition?

Worth going to either of these cars from my good old '11 C63?

I intend to test drive both these cars at some point in the future, but in the meantime, I'd love to hear your thoughts if you have any experience with these cars.

i'd say this is apple to oranges. the viper and z06 will both rip your face off and not think twice about it.

that said, i'd go with the viper, just because they have always been known to be so insane.

Yeah I'm curious about other people's opinion too. Both cars are badass ! Although I think the viper will come a lot cheaper because afaik all the Chevy dealers add 15-30k$ for "market adjustment"

That viper is a beast. I was on an exotics cruise and there was a guy with a new viper there. I cannot explain how quickly that car covered ground and do it justice. Made all my lady bits tingle in all the right places.

Viper. No question.
Check out driveviper.com forums.
And here is an early drag strip test.

Unless your set on making a change soon I'd wait to see if GM plans on a 2017 ZR1. If they end up offering a rear engine ZR I'm all in.

Viper will blow your ear drums and give you a headache literally with exhaust position ... And some extra year buildup due to that location as well but they have mended that issue a bit

I like that vipers are so damn rare and unique ... Get the viper

I prefer the look of the Z06. For some reasons I was never attracted by the viper although it is a beast.

S550 on order
I don't condone racing but, I've raced a new z06 ..he said he put down just over 500whp but something like 440ft of tq..it sounded pretty insane too..yellow and black it looked mean..anyways i had 2 blown fuel pumps at the time and i pulled away from him pretty good on the highway, ..but then again my cars pretty modified and im sure it's pushing well over 500whp/500tq (haven't had it dyno'd with the newer mods)

Now the E63 and S63 i raced...those cars haul ***.. and the S63 i swear is twice as loud as our cars when it opens up

i've seen a new viper a few times but never heard one, like everyone says youre comparing a sedan/couple (entry level AMG) against chevys most expensive product and dodges most expensive product.

The new Z puts down 585rwhp and about 600ft stock. So you probably raced last gen model. And last gen Z, given equal 500rwhp as you state you have, weighs in at 3200lbs vs 4000lbs for the C. It shouldn't even be a close race. If you beat him with blown fuel pumps, something was really wrong with his car or he didn't even know you were racing him...

I've been at CoTA this weekend and neither C7 Z06 is catching any of the Vipers from what I saw. But then I don't know what mods, if any, the Vipers had.

I'd go with the viper and I'm a vette guy. As much as I love the zo6... It doesn't hold a candle to the new viper and a few bolt on and your dealing with a very dangerous naturally aspirated animal. Plus, how could you get sick of that v10 exhaust note!? And, no way a c63 could pull away from the new zo6! Hell the old stock zo6 would walk a c63 with tune and longtubes.

thats what im thinking. Either that guy cant drive or didnt know what was happening. A stock c6 z06 could run with a tune/headers c63 all day long. So unless you're running like a 200shot of nitrous you wouldn't be close to a c7-Z. factor in 2 blown fuel pumps? not sure how the car would even still run... driven on 1 bad pump before and it knocks the car down to about 350hp

now that being said, id go viper all day long. So much more rare and attention getting. It's all about your preference. If you're looking for a dialy go with the vette. If you are looking for an outrageous monster that scares the **** out of you and gets a ton of attention get the viper.

I would say the Vette is probably more of a daily, but that's exactly why I wouldn't get it. I like completely insane so viper for sure, and you NEVER see them, another reason I like them. I daily all of my cars as much as possible. If you feel you can handle the viper on a daily basis instead of the C63 then I would say go for it. I love my AMG, but if I had the means to drive a viper every day...well, I'd do it since I'm still relatively young and could get away with it. In the end though, driving them all is the only way to know, and as it is your money, buy whatever makes you happy.

Thanks for the great comments. I have always loved the Viper due to its exclusivity. I see more Ferraris and Lamborghinis in SoCal than Vipers. Even beyond the exclusivity, I like the way it looks. I haven't driven one, and until I do that, I won't know if I can live with it. In the end, exclusivity and looks won't mean much if I don't enjoy driving the car.

The reason I am considering a Z06 even though I haven't driven that either is that I know I like supercharged cars. I test drove a CTS-V and a Shelby Cobra (550hp version) and really enjoyed the low end torque and the almost flat torque curve. NA motors are also a lot of fun, but they need to be revved up to feel the power.

I'll test drive these cars at some point in the future and post my opinion here. Until then, I can only speculate. Another car that is quite tempting is the new Porsche Cayman GT4. A lot less power and craziness for similar money, but it may more than make up for that in the overall driving experience.

Maybe I'll just stick with my beautiful C63 with only 8k miles on it and enjoy what I already have for a few more years. I don't need to sell it to buy a Viper or a Z06, but I know I will end up selling to justify the purchase and reduce the financial hit, and that is giving me a reason to pause.
