2011 C63 vs 2012 E550 Coupe
What do you guys think? If I made the switch from my C63 to the E550, will I regret it or would it be a good decision? Both cars are obviously powerful, C63 on papers more so but in Alberta at our elevation I am not so sure considering the E550 is twin turbo.
I love the coupe looks so no doubts about that. Just looking to see if this is something I should do or not. If the E550 was AWD it would have been a no brainer but they are both RWD so I am thinking really hard and carefully.
Please help me decide and if anyone has personal experiences with both, they are most welcome.

It's true that both cars are powerful. I actually think I hit higher speeds when I drive the E550C because it's so much quieter and smoother.
The E550C is fast in a straight line and it handles pretty well in sport mode. In the twisties the steering and suspension in the C63 is better and the seats are MUCH more supportive.
Make sure you check the headroom in the E550C. I'm 6' and have a bit of a problem with it though it's still OK.
Whichever car is in the garage when I leave for work, I know it will be a fun drive.

How do you find the exhaust note difference between the two?
When you gun either of them from a stop light, which one is quicker?
Like I said on papers of course the C is faster but I am worried that at our elevation the Turbo's might be a little faster. How's the reliability of the E? Which one do you prefer out of the two?

E550 coupe... Easier to daily drive thanks to a more supple suspension and just smoother
Depends on what you want... E550 is the martial arts expert in a tuxedo, and c63s is Bruce banner after you've pissed him off

That's what I am torn about as to what I want. It's so damn hard.
We are pretty high up here so NA engines lose a LOT and I think the E550 being TT might be quicker even but not sure. Like the looks better of it but then it's not an AMG.

The "E class coupe" is really a bit too C-ish, and that particularly applies with the sports package which brings in those funny seats that are literally from the C class labeled coupe. They don't fit the car.
It's not a bad car but I don't perceive it as higher value than a C class sedan (the coupe labeled C class coupe has other problems of course).

The exhaust note of the E550C is better than most cars, but nothing like the C63.
Speed from a stop light seems very close. I'm sure the C63 is faster, but it's not by a huge amount.
Regarding the elevation, the C63 only has about 12% more HP. One of the engine geniuses on here may be able to tell you how much power you lose at your altitude.
Reliability of the E has been great. We've had it for 3 years (only 20K miles) and no problems.
As for which I prefer, we bought both cars on the same day. I was trying to decide between a C63 and an E550 sedan. I had to go to 2 dealers who had both cars and drive them back to back to decide that I wanted the C63. I talked the wife into trading in her older E350 on the E550C because she didn't want a sedan. Pretty smart of me huh?
It's a tough choice man, but a good problem to solve.

I had a 2012 E350 coupe that I traded to get into 13 C63. The rear seating is more roomy, that's about it interior-wise as they're designed very similarly. The pillar-less design of the E coupe is pretty cool, also the pontoon rear quarter panels give the car a muscular look. If I had gotten the E550 coupe instead of the 350, I might have kept it. I wanted more power so I went for a trade in... The dealer showed me a 2013 E550 as an option, but in the end the choice was clear. AMG

In addition to my C63 coupe I have an E550 4M sedan with the Twin turbo M278, and while it is VERY fast, you rarely know it. It has some growl, but is buttery smooth by design. The M278 doesn't have the instant raw power of the M156. It is faster than the C63 in the wet and snow. While it can perform/outperform the C63 if I want to engage in a sporting driving experience it leave me a bit disappointed; I have to really push it to get the feeling.

I have driven a few E coupes in the day and back in 2011 I was torn between the C63 and the E550. I went with the C and happy I did. Not to disparage the E coupe in any way, it is just owning an AMG is a unique experience. I found when I drove the E coupe at triple digit speeds I felt uncomfortable and you really felt you were going fast. Slightly floaty, not as reassuring as the AMG which laughed at the same speeds.
Papashango, just make sure you are ready to move one from your AMG. I have seen a lot of guys here get out of the C63 only to get back in!

Yea I am certainly not sure yet and I don't want to do it unless I feel 100% content making the move for whichever car I am going for. I think I will stay with the AMG for now until something comes along that blows me away and I really want.

Is anyone tuning the E550? If so, how much horsepower is lurking in that motor?
....Just popped over to Renntech website, they are claiming 503hp on the twin turbo E550 with a tune!!

E class is very oriented towards comfort and noise reduction, despite what the numbers tell you on paper. It will cruise effortlessly to high speed without you noticing it.
C63 AMG is about noise and acceleration (and corners too if you get the LSD). The suspension, brakes, and seats are geared for hard driving. Comfort is fine in C-mode, and in S/S+ it roars in a way the base E will never match.
Not mincing words here but they are very different characters and you'll want to live with it for years. Ask yourself if you have any interest tracking your car, for example.
