tire usage on track days
hey guys. just curious how much of your tires get used up at track days (road course, not drag)? i just got new AS3's, and while i fully understand that they aren't going to give me the grip of racing slicks, i wanted to hit speed district next weekend for ****s and giggles. i know that it all depends on how much i mash the gas and get sideways, but i was wondering if i was going to end up driving home with bald tires after the day. i'd appreciate any input from you guys that have taken your cars on road courses for track days. thanks.

My experience in running road tyres on track in my own vehicle is that you may well find the tyre shoulders get "shredded" due to high speed cornering and load. The shoulders will clean up after some ordinary street driving but definitely excessive shoulder wear. Happens due to tyre construction/tread and camber setup? As a one off go for it ensnuring you are running good pressure but if doing it regularly I would get a spare set of wheels and tyres for the track days.
Thinking about the AMG drive days I have done, I can't remember the Continental ContactSports suffering as much as my own tyres have. I suspect they run a fairly high pressure and who knows if the alignment settings are stock.

Thanks for the replies, guys. I'm used to beating the bag out of racing slicks on a purpose-built racing car so am having a hard time thinking I can live with treating my garage queen street car the same way. But with the track so close and the event price fairly cheap, I'm probably gonna say eff it and give in to the temptation!
