Had to make the move..

Fellas,

Long story short. Been on this forum for a while with my E55k. I had the car set up as best I could for running on road courses. Beast of a car, just not the best on the tracks. Heat soak is a *****. Drove by my local dealer here who I've bought several cars from (including the 55) on my way out of town to instruct at Roebling Road Raceway this past Friday. Parked out front he had a black c63 that caused me to do a u turn. Needless to say here I am.

So my question is this. You guys that run your cars on road courses, what do you suggest that I do to improve this cars performance on track?

Looking forward to being a part of this group!

It's a 2011. I want to get it dialed in right for the track. I will post up some pictures soon.

Is it still stock?
If yes you need a ECU tune, long tube headers, lighter brakes (if you don't have the 2pcs yet), maybe better cooling (CF vented hood + oil cooler upgrade), and lighter wheels for a start.

It's still stock. I'm definitely going to get in on EC's handheld tune deal they've got going on.

I'm taking it with me to the track this Monday to give it a good shakedown. I will report back when I get it home and get it to my mechanic. I was on the phone with him just now and he mentioned getting an upgraded oil cooler as well. Is that an issue with these cars on track?

I definitely agree on the brakes. That being said, what two piece set up works well here?

Also, what about suspension upgrades? I would like it lowered.

Thanks for the advice!

Overheating issues are known for facelift model (2012 onwards) due tho the MCT transmission. People at the track will experience limp mode where the ECU cut power to protect the engine whenever oil temperature gets too high. Which means usually one or 2 hot laps.
The limp mode is not as frequent on pre-FL model 2008 to 2011 MY. But I've seen members reporting overheating issues as well. So yes the upgraded oil cooler will help. As well as a good vented hood to dissipate heat in the engine bay!

Check this thread it might be a more economic solution ==> https://mbworld.org/forums/c63-amg-w...your-cool.html

As far as brakes are concerned there are several vendors out there. One that I see popping up often is Racing Brakes. Give them a shout and see by yourself. I think they even have ceramic option for the C63 or maybe that is just for the C63 Black Series.
Most of us use KW coilovers. I would say the club sport give you a little bit more flexibility. Again there are other vendors as well. Do a search.

If you have a front plate remove that as well when you are on the track as it restricts the cooling ram air.

No front plate. I'm taking it to the track this Monday and will let you know how it does.

It would be interesting to test what removing the panels underneath the engine would do from a engine cooling perspective.

It would have to help

Wobble, it would be interesting to see how your cooling package works. Please post results if you intend to log the temps, or if you just go by the gauges.

Also, the rad blockoff panel is really a must-do if you're tracking. My Pocono trackday was cancelled this weekend (after Limerock was cancelled 2wks ago), otherwise I'd have results. Damn snow and ice fcked up all the tracks out here massively. Would also be interesting to see your before/after results with the plate if you intend to do it.

Removing the belly pans on my e55 didn't help with heat at the track. Not having the pans under the car makes me nervous. Lots of sensitive things up there just waiting for a rock at 140+ mph

If I was running at the track I would remove the hood if allowed.

Successful day at the track today. Overcast and 73 degrees this morning. More sun and almost 80 this afternoon. Indicated coolant temp between 194 and 199 degrees. Indicated oil temp was between 237 and 252 all day. I'm not easy on vehicles either!! 2 piece rotors and a tune are next.
