How To: Badge Removal and Application

I know it's a really basic procedure, but I thought I'd practice my "how to" documentation procedure since I haven't done one of these in years. If you like the setup, let me know and I'll document the other mods I do along the way.

All the items you will need for this procedure. Utilize a manly hairdryer for additional HP. I used a matte black one which gained me an additional .0284 multiplier for HP.

Clean area with detailing spray or window cleaner.

Apply tape to use as a guide. Be sure to align tape to the letters and not up under the letters.

Apply heat to the badge to loosen adhesive and ease removal.

Use fishing line or dental floss and glide along the backside of the badge in a sawing motion.

Saturate remaining adhesive with Goo Gone.

Use a credit card or something similar to scrape off excess residue and remaining adhesive.

Spray area with a mild cleaner to remove any additional contaminants and Goo Gone.

Align badge to the tape guides and press firmly. In hindsight, I would recommend using clear packing tape instead of the tape that was provided to me.

Good catch. Yes, they are. I thought they had already been spaced out, but upon application I noticed it as well. I'll make the correction at some point.

Where did you purchase the matte black badges?

I got them from http://chromecarletters.com/.

Quality of plastic is good as well as the adhesive backing. The letters are a little larger by about an 1/8". They will arrive on backing but are NOT spaced correctly. I realized this mistake a little too late.

One other thing to note, the "A" in their AMG badge is the older pre-facelift version. I had to secure a newer AMG badge thru E-Bay. I'm not too happy with the adhesive backing on that one. I may pull that one off and apply my own 3M adhesive backing on that one.

I'm so clumsy, I'm scared I'll mess it up!

Would someone do me a huge favor and measure from the side and bottom of the trunk lid the exact placement for the C 63 and the AMG badges? My car had been de-badged by the previous owner and I may put them back on (gloss black would look good on white I'm thinking?)
Thanks!

Well, here is what my measurements came out to be. Might want to double check with a couple others since it appears my badges aren't at the same height.

Measured at the top of the C, using the line of the top of the badge it is 1.5" left to the trunk gap and 1.5" up to the spoiler. The gap between C and 6 is 1". The gap between 6 and 3 is 3/8". The distance from spoiler to top of the 3 on the right hand edge is 1.75" (a 1/4" drop from the C as it follows the curve of the trunk). On the AMG side, it is 2" drop to the left top corner of the badge and 1.75" to the top right corner of the G. The G is also 1.5" from the right hand trunk gap when using the line made by the top of the badge.

Hope this helps.

Silly me. The C 63 Badge is taller than the AMG badge. The bottoms of them follow the line on the trunk lid, so of course the tops are slightly different heights.
