2012 C63 AMG
Tyre size question

Apologies if this has been asked before but I can't seem to find a definitive answer.

I have 19" multi spoke alloys on a 2012 coupe.

Currently running 255/30/19. Can I safely fit 275/30/19 without any rubbing. I have no intentions of lowering the car but I do want to fit spacers to get a more flush look.

Many thanks in advance.

While it will physically fit, a 275 size tire is a tad on the wide side for a 9" rim so it's not going to be the best fit visually, and furthermore, the tire will tend to somewhat "squirm" sideways during cornering because of the narrower rim so any potential benefit from the wider contact patch will likely be offset by slightly worse cornering stability. On the other hand, if straight line traction is all you have in mind, it will likely work just fine and (all other things being equal) you will get a bit more grip.

With 275 sized tire on the OEM rear rims, putting spacers on the back is IMHO not a viable option as it will very likely rub against the fender.

What about 245/35/19 for the fronts as compared to the 235?

I don't know about the 19s but for the 18s I actually just got off the phone with my tire guy:

I am putting
245/40/18 on the fronts
265/35/18 on the rears.
Michelin Pilot Sport AS/3

Great tire! Lasted me 2 years and 12,000 miles vs the original Conti that lasted 1 year and 8,000 miles. Not to mention a lot better ride and grip.

Good news. I have the same set up and tire. Got them a couple of months ago. So far so good.

Yes, you can fit a set of 275/30/19 Michelin PSS without rubbing. That's what I have on my OEM multispokes. I also have a set of 275 goodyear eagle F1's and I also have no rub. You'll feel a noticeable difference when you upsize from 255's. I know some members don't believe there's any benefits, but there definitely is increased traction.

Going from 255 width to 275 while maintaining the same aspect ratio will throw your speedo off by 8%. I wouldn't recommend it.

Someone here said it was somewhere between 2.5-3.0% IIRC which makes more sense to me.

Wheel / tire size / offset comparison app:

http://www.rimsntires.com/specspro.jsp

Going from 255/30-19 to 275/30-19 results in a 1.8% speedo difference.
