Auto Headlights Turn On and Off During Day

I did a search that didn't result in any hits.

I've recently noticed that my headlights, when in Auto mode, turn on and off during the day. I was recently at the dealership and they mentioned this is a common occurrence and didn't offer a solution.

Has anyone experienced this?

Thanks,

Rob

hmm, this will happen if you enter a darker area, say a tunnel, and your headlights will turn on, after exiting, it should go back to DRL mode after that if you have it turned on.
I don't know your level of knowing the car and features so, you can manually turn off the DRL mode via the steering wheel controls. If it's on and you are still experiencing on/off issues with the DRLs then that could be bad wiring.
Since you said this happens during the day then not happening at all at night? This is good since this might narrow it down to the DRLs instead of the headlights. Also knowing what year car might help.

It's a problem that's plaguing most. You'll notice your right or left side parking lights randomly turning on by itself also when the car is completely off.

You'll need a new headlight switch. Happened to me starting last year, and for some reason only comes back with colder temps meaning expansion has a role in it somewhere.

Car is a 2009 and DRL is off. Auto lights function appropriately at night.

This occurs while driving on a bright, sunny road. Not sure what to think. I'll keep an eye out for parking lights while the car is off.

if you can try to duplicate the issue, i had this for a while every now and then, even at night. usually if i shake the knob a little bit it stops. this may also confirm a bad switch as another post mentioned.

While on the topic, I hate the auto lights on this car!
During the day or night, my lights are permanently on. Only if I switch the fogs on, then will the headlights switch off, and come on as it gets dark

I'm puzzled. I have a hard time seeing my headlights when I'm driving around during the day. How can you tell that they are turning on and off?

I hate that in auto mode you don't get fogs as an option, so I just leave them in on position with fogs on. They shut off when the car is off, and are on all the time... no need to worry about them that way!

Mine does this funny enough if you turn it from auto to the off position the switch still works in auto mode for the most part you just need to get a new switch let me know if you find a good deal on one I have been looking for a while I don't drive the car much so its a not a big issue for me.

I have star and scanned the car it comes with with something like light switch implausible which normally means the switch or wiring has a problem it a short or break it.

Anyone have a good DIY on how to change the switch? Sitting in a box on my kitchen counter for an extended period of time worked for a while as it was asymptomatic but this morning opened my garage to find my car winking at me with just the right side parking lights on... dont' want to come to a drained battery....
