last year or the year before, I've brought my car to the dealer to check out this sound. I even made a film of it and put it in the dvd player of the car to show them but they ended up telling me it was normal and not to worry.

The dealer's answer + the fact that it was doing it on other cars like in my posted video made me kind of forget about it...

mine does it when the car is cold like in both video and when it's hot, I can still hear it but very very faintly. You really need to be attentive to hear it.

I never had any problem related to this, the sound has always been the same. It's been doing this for 2 years now.

Even if I didn't have any problem, I also think it doesn't sound very normal that's why I'm very interested to know if anyone managed to find out where it comes from and fix it.

this is what i'm worried about this next dealer telling me..

is there anyway to check the power steering pump pressure, to make sure it's functioning correctly?

i'm going to be highly pissed off if this ****ing car's pump goes bad on me after they say it's normal.

If it goes away 20 to 30 seconds after a cold start, then it may be the secondary air pump.

After you start it, rev the engine a bit and move the steering wheel to see if the pitch of the sound or the sound level changes.

I will start mine later and check for a similar sound for you.

Good luck in finding a fix

i honestly can't tell you how long it stays on for, don't pay attention.

i will do this.. didn't think of it.

report back!

Do you get a change in sound when the steering wheel is turned left lock or right lock at idle?

There was another user with a similar sound that posted a video. Seems to be somewhat common.

Solekeeper,

What year is your car? You do not have any details filled out in your profile.

Thanks for the info!

Did the noise completely went away now?

I've been paying attention to mine lately about this and she didn't do the noise anymore.

If it completly fix you issues, i'll bring back mine to the dealer with the suggested fix if I hear it again.

Hey solekeeper, I know it's a year old thread but do you have any update on what your dealer end up finding? Mine has been doing this lately. Steering fluid level is good. It doesn't do it cold starts, but it does it after restarting the car a couple hours after being driven. Thanks.

They had to re-learn the camshaft....sweet Lord, what on earth does that mean?

Thanks Celicasaur! I missed that reply. Also, found a reply from him on another thread I searched that after replacing the cam adjusters, the whirring sound disappeared. Gonna have dealer check my noise out.

edit- got the car back, 2 camshaft adjusters were replaced. how many do our cars have? guessing 2 according to diagram.

http://mbonlineparts.com/parts/2013/...gramCallOut=17 part 17 are the cs adjusters.

anyone do this job before? looks labor intensive..
its only a $30 fix that camshaft position sensor make the timing go wrong , this problem is common with this car make and model
