The Full Story On Cam Adjusters And Lifters
#101
I have the same sound cold or hot and sounds almost like piston or rod knock .
More noticeable now after fitting new lifters and rebuilding the cam adjusters as the engine has no more ticking sounds.
My old cars (Holden HSV Senator) chev engine LS2 had a similar but more noticeable sound when cold which Cheverolet put down to rattling pistons.
The sound went away once the car was warmed up
I bought the car with 100K/klmand drove it a further 60-70K/klms like that with no adverse effects

had a couple LS motors and one of them had piston slap as well. Sounded identical to that found in the above video. Also had a race engine built for my WRX some time ago and the engine builder had stated that with forged pistons expanding and contracting during warm up temp changes that piston slap can be heard until the motor hits a warmer temp and the pistons expand a bit.
not sure if this is what the above video is but i can say I’ve heard rod knock and piston slap and both sound very similar. My C63 is doing the same thing though so i would assume it’s piston slap with the forged pistons because it does go away once the motor reaches temp
It's very subtle, but did it sound like this? (you can hear it just before it changes gears the most)

fc63 i assume your noise went away once the engine reached operating temp?

I agree with luvboost in that I believe its piston slap.
When my engine had the dreaded ticking you didn't notice it.
But now that there is no more ticking or rattle on start up I can here the lite knocking between 1200-2000 rpm as you accelerate slowly.
Above 2K the exhaust is too loud to hear it any longer.
With my old LS engine I just learned to ignore it until it went away with warm engine.
