Fuel filter

So after performing some general maintenance on my other cars which included fuel filter replacement, I thought I would look into doing the same on the C63.

After doing a lot of online research and looking into the Mercedes EPC software, I cannot find a filter to purchase nor the location of it on the car. Is the fuel filter not a replaceable item?

It has to be replaceable. Every other car I have owned recommended replacing at certain mile increments and based off the 2 changed recently in the other cars, I am sure my AMG filter could use replacing.

My 08 mustang picked up about 60 horsepower from the filter change. Filter was almost clogged. I didn't realize it was driving that bad. Lool

Fuel filters are in the gas tank attached to the fuel pumps. I don't think they are serviceable.

They are very large pouches. Doubt they will clog up.

oh ok, so they have the 'socks' on the pumps?

Every other car I have ever owned or worked on had those and a inline fuel filter somewhere else in the system because the socks only catch big stuff.

I guess it's kind of like how our cars don't have a catch can OEM. I bought a weistec air oil separator, but maybe MB engineers' innovations make us question things too much. Who knows!

So does your catch can 'catch' much?

Agree. Every fuel pump I've ever taken apart has socks on the end also.

This is always IN ADDITION TO an inline fuel filter. It's always the case - the sock is just to protect against any large particulate matter that might get into the tank.

I've searched around, and a lot of MB models actually have the fuel filter INSIDE the tank, inline with the pump. And they look as big as a can of soda. Maybe this is what Merc63 means?

Nope just talked to a good friend who runs an Indy shop. Lot of cars since the late 90's have deleted the use of a filter besides the pump sock. Appears Mercedes did the same thing on the W204's

It does catch oil. I usually empty it every few months or so, and it's maybe 1/3 full.

Fuel filter replacement is Service 11 (2012 Service Booklet) - every 240,000KM (150,000 miles) or 15 years.

Unless you track the car then it is after every weekend....LOL J/K.

the fuel filter you are talking about is the left side sending unit with level sensor. The right side sending unit has no filter (other than the socks you're talking about earlier which i'd never consider a true filter) is the side with both the fuel pumps and another level sensor.

Here is China, the fuel quality is bad (very bad)... so I was looking to replace the fuel filter and was also surprised not to find this filter as spare parts. Do you know how to replace the filter you mentioned? and how to source the filter itself?

Has anyone performed a fuel filter (aka "fuel sending unit") recently that can confirm the part is the left side sending unit? I can't find any real pics of the part to confirm this would be what's replaced per the service schedule. I believe it's part 2045400917.

If it's like my E55, it's part of the fuel sending unit. You have to replace the whole unit. There are a couple people that have gone with custom pumps, return systems, inline filters, etc. I don't know of anyone that has done that for the M156 yet, though.

The fuel filter for the w204 c63 is underneath the rear driver side seat, see here:

You can buy a replacement at FCP Euro.
