When I spoke about 10w50 or 10w60 I was not talking about petronas 229.5 but about really well known oils like the motule 10w50 / 15w50 or the castrol 10w60.

W204 C63 Coupe, W166 ML350 BlueTEC, 928GT, C5 Z06 & IS300 race cars, EQE 4Matic+ on order
Different engines have different lubrication requirements, so while that Castrol 10W-60 may be the right oil for an E46 M3, it is the wrong oil for a Mercedes C63.

I'm curious how that joe_quax guy from this thread (https://mbworld.org/forums/c63-amg-w...tracktool.html) has used the 5W50 motul 300V for 60k km and the castrol 10W60 for 7k km.

First of all : thank you all guys for your replies! Really appreciated.
second : I think that I still have many things to learn about oils. Very surprised about your replies.
third : I am not confident with driving in a race like the nurburgring or Spa with this oil...
maybe I am still too much focused on cars line ex scoobies and need to learn much about the C63.
again thx u all!

Here you go! This one was from Mercedes Benz Canada. For those that are too lazy it is stating that 0w40, 5w40, and 0w30 oddly enough as acceptable oils for the m156.

I was driving today and a check engine oil level light came on. The dip stick shows the oil level at the lower of the mark. I filled a quart of 0W40 and the oil level on dip stick still shows the same... Should I fill more? The car has run about 6k miles since last oil change.

It depends on the oil you use. See discussion (from post #9 onwards) at https://mbworld.org/forums/c63-amg-w...ml#post6423171.

The wrong oil is currently in the engine. Attached, please find the MB 223.2 specification for motor oils. Just follow the yellow highlighted areas. Once you do, you will see that only oils falling under spec 229.5 are allowed, and that only viscosities 0W-40 and 5W-40 are allowed. The attached 229.5 spec gives you the approved oils.

Well since we all LOVE oil threads I figured I'd add some fuel to the fire ....I ran 15w50 for about 3 oil changes and saw no ill affects from it, and YES, the mobil 15w50 is 229.5 approved. Prior to that I ran liqui-moly for a long time and it was great. Hopefully tomorrow I will be switching to Castrol 10w60 and giving it a try. I live in a God awful hot climate(78deg-105deg) and my engine is approaching the 250 mark so a little thicker oil is prolly a good thing anyway. I know that MB has their oil recommendations but I trust THE MAN a lot more than MB when it comes to how our M156s actually operate in the real world and what they need to have the best longevity. Tasos swears that for the Middle Eastern climate that he ONLY uses 10w60 for the m156, and my climate is very similar to the Middle East temperature wise. Flame on!!!!

It's not rocket science a thicker oil is required if...
Ambient temperatures causes you to drink pints and pints of ale .
Prelonged high speed such as Autobhan and track days .
