Build a barn burner

One of the TV car builder shows had a Camaro, stick shift, nice body work, and possibly a 427 and blower. He was lazy shifting, on street tries and ran 10.1 141 or so on a drag strip. i have read bits and pieces over time about engine builders going AMG one or two better with MB engines. What is the limit of the 6.3 engine structure as far as increasing engine displacement and better/ best heads and a hell for stout transmission? It would be nice if some "rich" Dudes or Dudeets were to build a monster motor and drive train to get a C63 or very modified version out there to give clues and sources for building a monster motor, what could termed a real super car. I imagine it would really require all wheel drive but that is not insurmountable. Surprised Renntech or Weistech or Brabus is building somethin along these lines. hint hint hint An 8 second or less MB on the drag strip. There are Novas and other street driveable, somewhat, cars running eights and lower with monster motors, twin turbos and 2500hp on up.

There is a twin turbo AWD C63 running 9's. Swapped in an entire M157 drivetrain I believe.

Biggest problem is weight. Those old American cars are pretty easy to get light, and you barely even notice it. With our cars, where do you start? Show me where I can lose 1000# easily, and I'll do it tomorrow.

The part you're missing to get is they want to use benz components. Weistec could throw a powerglide and standalone ecu in and be in the 8's but that's not what it's about. considering the 6.2L is the largest displacement motor benz makes currently i dont for see this happening. Chevy sells 572cubic inch crate motors lol, it's not exactly the same. Not to mention most people with c63's daily drive them, and starting with a big 4dr car for drag racing is a pretty bad platform.

At some point in time, I seem to recall the 6.2 being stretched out to 7.0 liters at least. Not much compared to 800 cubic inch+ giants that some street/strip hot rods. However at seven liters , flat crank and with proper breathing heads, if they will stay glued down, and turbos/superchargers etc I think 1600 hp is feasable even 2000 and would be no great sacrafice. Without working the numbers, that should be enough power for low eights high sevens with everything else being up to snuff. The doors are heavy. Door skins, in carbon fiber, would only save perhaps 50 lbs but the entire doors all four of them in carbon fiber with the mechanisms for windows and seals and side bar for crash certification should save, and I'm guessing 350lbs. Front fenders and hood and rear deck in carbon fiber possibly another 200 lbs and the brakes to carbon ceramic another 100 lbs. Wheels well you want strength not extreme lighteness but some exotic etc are running carbon fiber rims so figure another 40 lbs. Rear seat and spare tire maybe 60 lbs. Widening wheel cans in trunk and in front, well that takes some engineering, and perhaps the all wheel drive transfere case shaft and differential will add back back 120 lbs or more. A carbon fiber drive shaft for rear should save 20 lbs. A 3200 lbs dry, car with 1600 reliable hp, or two pounds per hp, would be all the barn burner I would need for street car. I don't mean gutted and stripped. An engineer whiz with time to put together the design, and weights of components, could come up with a super car in a c63 body.

Sure. If you want to spend $500k to make a C63 go fast, why not. Anything is possible.

Dreaming? Well as young guy we built all kinds of dreams. We didn't have carbon fiber nor electronic engine controls. We had affordable 2,000 lbs or thereabouts Thunderbolts, Tunnel port 427s and hemis in every thing from Dart, Cudas and anything we wanted to build. One guy had a rail with a bathtub for the body and a 440 Chrysler up front. Another had a Chevy II with a ford six cylinder made with two ford heads cut apart and welded back together that out ran V8s. Don't remember classes. Acid dipped bodies, aluminum panels and so on. No on the street and strip Guys are running 800 cubic inch motors and nitrous and or blowers and turbos. On the street mind you. Mileage is measured in gallons per mile in some. But it cost too much, or the younger crowd can't turn a wrench and are too lazy, can't make a mold and lay fiberglass or carbon fiber. Can't use slide rule, of I forget you have computers now, to design and figure weight and so on. Can't operate a lathe, can't, can't, can't, can't, can't spend 20,000 or a engine, can't can't, can't . MBs are too heavy, MBs won't, can't. Come on kids are you that lazy, tired, can't use the computer, an't thin, or is it I can't go buy it at the Dealer ready to drive?
