Black series splitter

Question: my C63BS has the carbon fiber package. The huge splitter has some rock chips in the clear coat. My body shop says it is really a gel coat on the functional carbon weave and can't be clear coated. Does anyone know if the splitter comes off the massive airdam nose piece? Has anyone repaired this item successfully?

Google research suggests that epoxy can be used repair chips in gel coat followed by wet sand and policy. The weave is intact. Will try Nd update the forum.

What do u mean 'wet sand and policy'? Also, would this method fix a tiny scratch on the bottom side of the front lip (splitter)? Can't see it but I know it's there. I thought there would be no way to fix the coating on the carbon fiber so this is very interesting to me.

Sorry I'm not sure how to take it off. Please let me know what you do with the rock chip and good luck!

"Wet sand and polishing" perhaps.

Unfortunately, I'm on my third CB front splitter. I echo what others have said. My body shop told me that there is no practical way to repair cracked or chipped CB to satisfy obsessive compulsive owners. There are no bolts securing the splitter, only epoxy (this surprised me).

Yes, should be wet sand and polish (spell check on Idevice). I found this product on Amazon
Crystal Clear Epoxy Resin System Kit For Carbon Fiber, Kevlar, Fiberglass - 6oz: Amazon.com: Industrial & Scientific Crystal Clear Epoxy Resin System Kit For Carbon Fiber, Kevlar, Fiberglass - 6oz: Amazon.com: Industrial & Scientific
Actually excited about being able to fix these spots easily without replacing the whole front end. Scary to think about how easy it is to damage the splitter requiring replacement if I bump a parking curb.

Do any of you know if there's a more economical source/Vendor to find a new front splitter other than MB Parts?

Wow that sounds great! If you can, please upload before and after pics. Also my advice is to try on a chip that is under where it's harder to see to see how it looks before trying in other areas. Good luck and I can't wait to see the results!

I will do some before during and after photos of the my repair. I also would be mind blown if someone bothered tooling up to make an replacement part (airdam-splitter assembly) for a car with a total production of 800 cars world wide. $3000 actually doesn't sound bad for the this big complex part with real carbon fiber.

No just stick with OEM that is your best bet for quality and fitment so far.
$3k is for the CF version. Non CF might be a bit cheaper.

As a matter of fact I don't know if the non CF splitter is independent from the bumper cover and sold as a separate part?

Thanks! I look forward to seeing the pics! And yea for such a rare car, I agree that the market is too small to make a replacement. Such a beautiful piece the splitter is!

*Off topic, do any of you fellow cbs owners have your ecu tuned? I've been thinking wether or not to have mine tuned. My cbs is so new (3500miles) that I want to keep her pretty much stock and keep her forever as there are only 50 in Japan and the price is already going up. But if I did tune the ecu I know I could reflash it to stock easily down the road. Just curious what your thoughts on it are.

Mines tuned by Eurocharged! Made the same hp as an LP-580 on the dyno just before -Car has tune, carbino CF air boxes and xpipe. No Headers.

I’m struggling with the same tuning dilemma, but was leaningtowards the MHP S2CM package (headers, tune, and thermostat). I can’t say thatthey are better than anyone else, but for my purposes that package seems tocheck all the boxes. I’m looking for durability, reliability and performance, maybe a little more out the exhaust, and some more responsiveness from thepedal.

MHP to me just seemslike the most mature developer next to Wiestec. But I don’t have any intentionof going Forced Induction so that leaves MHP at the top of my list. They arethe only developers to address heat soak via mechanical interface and integratedfirmware. I guess to me that made me feel like they took more of a systemsapproach during development and not just looking at marketing numbers. When Ireached out to them they were prompt, candid and provided more information thanI needed. They were very transparent.

But this is just my personal opinion. I haven’t pulled thetrigger yet, so if you guys have someone else in mind I would love to hear whatyou like about them.

On a sidenote @C63amg_Tokyo I am in love with your wheelchoice. My BS is also silver, and I never would have thought to considerbronze/matte bronze. Awesome choice. I was actually staying in just inShinagawa three weeks ago for 9 days. I wish I could have seen the car inperson LOL.

Lol MHP being a mature tuner ... really?
You must have not been on this forum for long. I would suggest you to do some more homework on this. Simple google search will probably save you some $$. Ask you why this vendor has been banned from here!
The only thing I bought from them are the headers. But again these are made by ARH. For some weird contractual reasons you have to go through MHP. So as far as tune is concerned weistec/renntech/eurocharged are the "mature" ones. You can't go wrong buying from them.

My bad for making the side note about tuning. Didn't want to start a tuning company debate, was just curious if other cbs owners had tuned theirs and felt it was worth it while having a thread with some CBS owners in it. Already the car is amazing out the box. Thx for the replies though.

This thread is about fixing the carbon fiber high gloss from rock chips. Let's keep it about that. Looking forward to seeing the before and after pics!

I had bought MBH Headers to install but I felt it would be 'too much' for my car so I put an x-pipe instead and sold the headers

Like mentioned in above Eurocharged tuned my car and I LOVE it! the best part of the tune has to be the rev matching on downshifts!

Yea I had headers on my previous c63 and don't want to go that route with my CBS. Where does the xpipe go, in place of the resonator?

Did you use the handheld mygenius to install the tune? Read some mixed reviews - some tunes not taking etc. Already the stock CBS rev matching is better than my last c63, I am interested, you don't happen to have any clips to share do you? I like the idea of being able to tune my ecu myself since I'm in Tokyo, I'd have to ship my ecu to America. I don't know how to take out my ecu and if I want to flash it back to stock, I'd have to ship it again. Which isn't that hard but just nice to be able to do it here.

Thanks for sharing some beautiful pics and info on your tune! Really appriciate it.

The beauty of the handheld is you don't need to send your ECU to Houston. Just a simple email and you are set

I am curious just how much gains can be had with a tune on a C63BS? It would seem they dyno really high stock and there is not much left to be gained though software tuning alone. Headers and crosspipes may offer some additional power. Hoping to be found wrong in this case-those who have a done a tune followed by dyno runs please chime in.

I gained nearly 25 whp after the tune. I'm expecting an extra 30-40 whp once headers will be installed.
