Does anybody here have experience with the Trofeo R? It was apparently originally designed for the Camaro, hence might work well for our cars. They are now available in the sizes we would need.
They are non-directional, so can be swapped left/right if needed.
Can't wait to see if any C63 feedback. Have been looking into myself since a fall HPDE event at Road America where I was with a handful of GT-R buddies and discussed with some of the Z06 Vette guys as well.
Seems only tire they were getting faster laps out of was Hoosier R6. Those with Trofeo R were raving how good, how much sooner back into power, how impressed compared to R888 and one other I forget. R888 seemed to be love/hate, 1 guy was on his 5th set he liked so much, another took them off complaining of too much noise, and not enough lap time improvement over MPSS tires on his other wheels. 2 or 3 cars with the Trofeo praised them, no negative comments.
Ah, great to hear we have some members who already drove the Trofeos. I am curious how they compare to other R-compound tires on the track (lap times, stiffness, noise, do they loose grip very abruptly). How long do they last? Any kind of observation you can share really.
I think the load rating for the 235 is on the low side for the C63. 245 and up should be fine. I am thinking about going 265 front/305 rear on my car, so would be robust from that point of view.
Ok the Trofeo R is a great tire with more dry grip than any of the PSS 1'S or PSS 2's. The treadwear is 60 so it's very gummy and has 6/32 depth, so it's not a long lasting tire by any means.
Since I drive my car sparingly it's fine, but if you're looking for a long lasting road tire, this is not it.
Ok so to your questions.
I don't have any lap times as of yet being winter time so I cannot compare them and I just got them about a month ago, but they do handle better. The stiffness is about the same as a PSS2, there is very low road noise and is good for a car of this weight which is shocking because the tire is so much lighter than my older PSS 1's. It was designed for a heavier road car for track use.
I would put the Trofeo R as a real predictable tire. But again I have had no track use from my car on these tires, so I cannot give you a 100 percent track opinion with this car, but being able to slide the car around on off camber 180 off-ramps near here, I can tell I have more predictability with them. I can control slides and what-not. I know people are asking about the Toyo R888 tire which I ran on my custom 67 Camaro and that was a terrible tire for many reasons. Not a good tire for heavy cars. Anyways I hope this helps. It's a great tire, not great wear, but lots of traction.
Mazspeed, thanks, that is helpful. I also read good reviews from Corvette and Porsche drivers tracking it. There were not so good reviews from Europe 3 years ago, but Pirelly seems to have changed the tire quite a bit based on feedback since then.
When you write about PSS2 tires, do you mean Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2s? Pilot Super Sport and Pilot Sport Cup are very different tires for different applications.

He moved back to Germany. Doubt he’s checking here anymore.
The Trofeo R’s wear like crazy and the load rating insufficient unless you’ve removed 500lbs from the car. The new MPSC2 compound is excellent and should be the first choice on these cars as long as you use an appropriate rim width IMHO.

They do wear fast, but a lot of heavy cars have used them due to their great sidewall support despite their weight ratings.
drove a clk black series on the street with these. Also had stage 2 supercharger. Not impressed. I dont think the owner made it to 2000 street miles on them. Grip was not impressive on the street even once warm. toyo R888R had tons more grip by comparison on my car with less tread width. lasted 3-4kmi as well.

The r888 doesn’t have half the grip on a track as the trofeo Rs do if everything is the same including age. They are great for launching, but bad for cars over 3500 lbs and have tons of road noise. The trofeo r is a touchy tire. When new it’s awesome if broke in well. It can last on a 2.2 mile track around 10 laps before it’s lost it’s sweet spot. But the same can be said for the cup2s as well. Fresh rubber is always best.
Will do. I won't have them on the rear for the first couple track days but they will just be to sort out the kinks anyway. I managed to get it it down to 3400 at 3/4 tank so ~3380lbs at half tank. It should feel fairly nimble compared to what I was used to.

Well, that looks great.
You have to take part in our group purchase for the carbon roof. If not you, then who.
Since I always drive to the track on my own, I haven't yet decided to remove the sound system.
About the tyres: Cup 2 simply have a too soft side for the car. The tyres just don't work too well at -3.8 camber in front.
The Trofeo R is a super tyre. Unfortunately too expensive and wears out very quickly.
Currently I drive the Toyo R888R. Comparatively cheap. From the grip however under the Trofeo and noisy as hell. The Cup2 has not nearly as much grip as the Toyo. More a very very sporty road tire.

I'm the one considering taking the sedan roof off your hands that you'll use for the mold. I am not competing, it's just for fun so I'm not trying to set any lap records. Deleting the sunroof is just logical, but going with carbon is overkill and money can be better spent elsewhere.

I see the R888R 245/35-19 is only an 89Y. That won't work even at 3400lbs. I am starting out at -4° camber up front with 0 toe on KW CS.
That thing is a weapon J. 3400 lbs for that car is incredible. I’m going to try the goodyear super car 3r tires on my GTS when I get a new set of tires just to see how they act. I have heard good things about them. Post vids on the track when you get some. I’d love to check them out. Great job.
