He wants to race you because he is in a 92' tin can with power and you're in a modern, german, muscle car. He needs to stroke his ego.
Line up, rev at him, and watch him make of fool of himself. Seriously, you don't need that and you're going to lose simply because his car weighs nothing and has decent power.
Let Darwinism race him, just sit back and watch. Much more entertaining. At the same time, just keep reminding him how much faster you are than him but never race.

just make sure your RPMs are 5k+ and you might pull him ..you gotta remember HP sells cars and torque wins races
i've walked a ton of those kind of cars, turbo mr2/single fat turbo evo's / older GTRs ...walked this tuned cat back 5.0 the other night ..it was stupid loud lol...just make sure you don't start out in like 3rd or 4th, but im no where near stock
i wouldn't worry about the mr2 though..you gotta worry when you see a 2015+ E63/S63/CLS63 is in the rear view, Good luck then.

Avery, we all know these c63's aren't hooking up on the street on normal tires. Sure, some do, whatever. 99% of us joe shmoes just hammer the damn thing and make loud noises while smoking up the tires, if they remember to turn off T/C.
If you and your buddy really want to race, grab yourself a set of track tires on cheap rear wheels, line em up where there is a little tree standing thingy with pretty lights that tell you when to go on a prepped track.

The mr2 base weight is around 2500lbs, pretty skinny. If he does have 400whp (and prob some weight reduction mods as well) he will get that thing moving a bit. You could always scare the poop out of him and make him screw up the launch but more than likely, he will be a couple of car lengths ahead.

At the track below I could hit 196kph (~122mph) in my 408WHP SC'd S2000 on the front straight (12-->1) and 184kph (~114mph) in my V5 Eurocharged tuned C63. Although entry speed was higher in the S2000.
Never did line them up for a drag though.
