I got a call today with the warranty verdict..... COVERED.
Kornerstone wrote MB a check for $2X,XXX this morning and now my new short block is on its way from Affälterbach to Houston. This was a big relief, and I mean a big, big relief. Maybe this is how it was intended to be? I'm beyond happy to be (Re)starting my C63 ownership with a fresh motor and freshly rebuilt transmission, after these months of headache after headache! MB says it will take about a week to get the parts, and 2 days for the install. I believe those to be generous estimates though and I am not really expecting to get the car back until the second week of march. But however long it takes, I can now rest easy knowing that I'll be getting back a pristine C63.
There will surely be a celebration burnout video to conclude this thread.

New short block made it through customs on Tuesday and was delivered at MB yesterday so I made my way over to take a look! It's a seriously nice looking unit, the cross hatching and machining on every surface is remarkable. Secondly, it turns out I have aftermarket headers on the car that the previous owner had installed! After viewing pictures online I believe them to be the Kleeman headers? What do you think? Very excited to be receiving the car next week!! (knock on wood)

interesting looking headers. I wonder if they're good for any gains over the stock logs. great to see that the car is going to be saved!

Still no car! Original estimate from my service advisor was that the car would be ready in the first half of last week. After speaking to the manager of the service department, he said that the car would be ready by the end of this week but might be pushed into next week. MB has been great... But all of their timeframe estimates would be more accurate if they had been doubled. On the 27th of this month the car will have been at MB for 2 MONTHS.

Just got off the phone with my service advisor;
So the engine is back in the car and they are looking to button up whats necessary to start the car either tomorrow or Wednesday and make sure everything runs ok. After that they are aiming to have the car ready for pickup by thursday or friday. Fingers crossed.

You guys are not going to believe this. I am in total disbelief myself. After installation of over $30,000 in new parts. They went to test drive the car..... IT STILL HAS THE SAME RANDOM MISFIRE PROBLEM. The car runs ok below 4500-ish rpm but is a bit down on power. Once you try to push it past 4500 rpm under moderate or high throttle, the car hesitates (stops accelerating), a rapid clicking sound is emitted from in front of the drivers compartment, and then the car misfires and will idle very rough until the car is shut off and restarted. Then it runs fine, no misfire, until you try to push it past 4,500-ish rpm again. The only code it throws is "multiple random misfire" They've had 2 days to try to diagnose the issue and have made "no headway". What in the hell is going on?!?!?! I must be cursed. I suspect an ECU/ECM, ignition, or fueling issue. The nightmare continues....... Going on 2 months without my car now.

Time to escalate within Mercedes. Did you use the AMG Private Lounge? AMG Headquarters in New Jersey?
They have significant expertise available in New Jersey and the development site associated with the plant in Alabama to help diagnose the problem. Trucking the car there and back would have been many times cheaper than what was done already.

Pissed? I'd be THRILLED that I just got a BRAND NEW LONG-BLOCK out of this deal FOR FREE and they still haven't figured it out. At this rate you'll have a brand new car and only be inconvenienced by being without it for 2 or 3 months. Seriously, this is great, I'm psyched for you. Have them replace all of the electronics next while they're throwing money at it.

It sucks that they still haven't fixed the car yet, but I kinda agree with Blkrokt. You have a brand new bottom end, and some other brand new parts.
As long as you have a courtesy car from MB, and it's not costing you, let them keep fitting new parts until the problem is fixed.

To reply to you all;
Yes I'm very pleased that this has resulted in basically a brand new motor, but god has this been a huge long headache and such a tease. And it has been so long now! Even in the time I had the car in my possession (12-16-2015 to 1-27-2016) it was never running right because of the lingering issues. I'm just sad at this point and would really like to have the car back.

Ok guys, so heres the word;
Both the mechanic that was working on my car and the shop foreman believe that the issues with the car are due to the headers and high flow cats in conjunction with the stock tune. They think that the stock tune isn't allowing the car to run right with the exhaust setup that it has. The car is back in my possession now and I'm taking it to Eurocharged tomorrow to get the headers tune and see if that helps. Thinking back to January when I was checking the codes it was throwing, the code "catalyst system efficiency below threshold" was always present. Apparently thats the code a car with headers will throw if needs the headers tune? My other suspicion is that the car has bad O2 sensors. What do you guys think of this? I'd appreciate some insight. Thanks for everything by the way.

my understanding is that with any modifications to the engine, whether its ROW airboxes or LTH, etc. you always need a tune to account for the change in the system.
I know a few other members here have experience with mixing the eurocharged tune and LTH. I will allow them to comment further.

That kind of exhaust work without a tune may be running you lean in the upper RPM range. It wouldn't be surprising for your car to exhibit some sort of misbehavior trying to compensate. Bet the headers tune fixes it.

It will only ever misfire when being pushed hard above 4,500. So that would make sense. I hope you're right!
