Hi all! Who knows what color code of original AMG Red brake calipers? My friend wants to paint your brake calipers from silver to red. But we can not find paint code.
With my car being away in a storage facility I cannot see myself, wondering if you can tell if the AMG decal is painted on, or a sticker that might be clear coated over? I've gotten 2 different answers. Dealer that offers caliper custom powder coating says sticker, someone modifying calipers locally believes it to be painted.
Thanks for any insight.
They are painted and clearcoated. I had a set where clear peeled off and all the red was fading. Powdercoating is very very hard to do that to. May not even be possible. My calipers were all replaced under warranty. But if it ever happens again I am sending the calipers in to get powdercoated.

I was looking for the original Brembo Red paint code myself, as I'd like to paint other parts the exact same color as calipers. Appears Brembo Red is a carefully guarded corporate secret :/
Don't paint...go vinyl! Looks way cooler because it looks like regular red but then when lights hit it they become reflective (kinda like a stop sign).
Yes sir! At least according to my installer they do. When I got my brakes vinyled on my previous car a civic si, I wasn't even planning on doing it but there was an SLS in the shop that just had them done and caught my attention. I asked the sane thing about heat and according to my installer that was actually his track car and he had over 2 years of hard tracking with the vinyl brakes with no problem. Here's some pics for reference. I definitely would have gotten my c63 brakes vinyled if they weren't already factory painted from p31 package.

There is zero chance that vinyl will hold up with how hot our calipers get, especially with track use. I've seen both OE and aftermarket high-temp (800deg) paint discolor and burn. I think Wobble64 posted pics once of his after a day on track, and they weren't red anymore.
This was a tracked out SLS... Maybe the SLS might be more of the Civic category than the mighty C63 but according to the shop and the owner it held up fine. Maybe it was an exception...maybe he didn't/doesn't track it as hard as he said idk... I wasn't there to witness the tracking in person, I'm just relaying what I was told. I don't understand why you would ask a question and then fight the answer...seems kind of rhetorical to me.

Am I not allowed to ask questions? Take it easy dude. Turns out I was wrong, and you are right, 3M makes a special high-temp vinyl specifically for brake calipers. I was thinking regular vinyl and it didn't make sense to me. Cool idea.
Lol, of course you're allowed to ask questions...hell I ask more questions than anyone. I'm not butthurt at all I was just calling out the fact that you asked a question: "Vinyl? Will that stand up to how hot the calipers get?" which I answered directly, specifically, and respectfully and then you bashed my answer "There is zero chance that vinyl will hold up with how hot our calipers get, especially with track use."...seemed like a rhetorical question at that point...it's all good!
i used g2 paint and vinyl emblem and wouldn't the emblem peel off if heat was problem....people been applying vinyl emblem to calipers for so long. Thats neat u can vinyl wrap caliper its probably DIY easy and not a PITA like painting the calipers was.

On a Honda, sure. On a C63, I think not.
I have to agree. Vinyl has a softening point at about 275F and when exposed to 400 it starts to degrade back to its core elements which are carbon hydrogen and Chlorine and ends up as an acrid smelly mass of carbon.
If you want to paint them I used a high heat paint kit from an auto supply store on my SLK320. It was OK but after two years the bright red became more maroon.

Your 3M thing is nice to know but as a long time guy in the vinyl industry my expectations would be that over time it is going to go the same way as the high temp paint I used on the Slick. Love to be wrong but perhaps we can revisit the 3M thing in after about 2 yr of hard driving.
