2014 C63 Edition 507 and 2016 GLE 450
To mod or keep stock?
So the last car I modified was a 2002 WRX and I went pretty crazy with it. It ran mid 12's @2400ft and was a blast to drive. Now that I've just purchased a 2014 C63 507 I'm looking into exhaust, intake, tune (the obvious places to start).
I wanted to get some feedback from those who have tuned their cars. Is it worth it? I'm a lot older and think 507HP is probably good enough....then again 550HP would be a nice upgrade too
So what do you suggest? And if it's worth modifying, I'd be looking for suggestions on reputable products I can get installed at a reputable place in Western Canada or Northwestern USA (Seattle area).
Thanks,
Jason [MSFT]

I hear ya. With my Subaru I had a good relationship with the shop and helped them promote the brand but I worry about the same with the C63. I may drive it for a year or two stock and see how things go. It sounds amazing as it is and absolutely tears up the pavement as is!

after you get bored with stock, start with tune and a either a xpipe or hpipe in place of the cats & resonator. Car doesn't get too loud at idle but you'll notice it at over 4k rpms.. When you get bored of that you can get more power and noise with a nice set of long tube headers. (IMO, id rather spend 3k on the headers instead of the 3k on aftermarket mufflers).

But you will need LTH to achieve 550....
Then its the next significant step of superchargers...
550 is more than enough for daily use... unless u are chasing numbers...

My car is stock (so far). I've been thinking the same thing as you, however. You could try some ROW or Renntech airboxes + tune. I did those two things on my previous car -- a C55 and it did make a difference. Perhaps some sticky R compound tires also. Being you have a 507, a tune won't make as big a difference as a regular C63, but apparently there are still some gains to be had. I went with a Eurocharged tune on my C55 and really liked it..

Going back to stock is easy, takes about 5 minutes with the programmer that you would have.
Thanks

Not sure if the car already has ROW airboxes since you are in Canada but if not, ECS tuning can help out with that and filters: https://www.ecstuning.com/News/Merce...012_2013_2014/
If you are looking for exhaust, I would suggest replacing 2nd cats with straights. I have this done and it keeps the AMG sound but makes it more throaty/healthy sounding and a bit louder (a def must I would say). Then if you are looking for more sound later you can always remove resonator, do h or x pipe or add headers.

The best mod you can do for these cars, is long tube headers. Easy 50-75hp with a tune.
The intake system is fine, I wouldn't touch it. Waste of $, maybe ROW airboxes.
If you need any work done or anything installed at a very reasonable rate, just let me know, I know a very good guy in your area.

NOSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. Do it.

It's a different animal than the AWD performance you are used to. Get used to the vehicles dynamics for a bit.......then have at the modding!
I have never understood going the cheap route with just replacing the resonator or rear cat delete pipes, I say do it right:
1)Tune (Eurocharged, Weistec, OE)
2)Headers with mid pipes and X-pipe (MBH)
This alone will transform the beast and take it to another level.
Beyond that, smaller returns but worth it:
ROW air boxes
High flow air filters
Keep your engine clean with a Weistec oil/air separator.

Cheap route? Not everyone wants/needs headers or they don't want to spend 3k+ on something like that. Also a lot of places don't have shops that do that type of work. Some are just looking for a little extra sound.

I just always figured if I'm going to be louder and get attention, I better be able to back it up when called upon....which is why headers and tune add a good amount of extra go fast when needed.

I guess.....from the increasing the sound perspective while not spending any money.

So...just throwin' out some budgeting...please feel free to correct my errors...
MBH Long tube headers, mid, X, and hi-flo cats - $4600 (or weistec - $5600)
+Install +$1,000
Tune - $1,500
Total ~ $7,000
Get bored and need that supercharger...
Weistec Stage 2 - $13k
Install - $3,000
Tune - $1,500
Total now - $24,500
Realizing you just spin your tires and need some rims and wider tires...
Rims - $3000
Tires - $1,200
Track rims and Track tires - $4,000
Total now - $32,500
Does that sound about right? Honestly I'm just trying to figure out how much I'm going to spend on mods in the next...oh...5-7 years or so...
