There must be a good reason why AMG doesn't mount these sizes? Michelin specs the minimum rim width for 245 is 8" and 275 is 9", but would you be comfortable at the edge? Tire Rack has an interesting technical article on rim widths for track use and advocates using the widest rim recommended by the tire mfg, provided they fit the car and are within event rules. I'm looking for 8.5/9.5 wheels to mount the same sizes as a compromise on my Edition 507.

I decided to go with MPSS 235f and 265r. I figure these cars go through tires so quickly, if I'm not satisfied with the 265r, then I can try the 275r.
I have a feeling the MPSS 265 would be more than enough and make it look plenty meaty in the rear.

I went with the Conti DWS - 235/265. I read great reviews on tread life and dry grip and noise level - which are my top factors.
Can anyone comment on the DWS dry grip in straight line acceleration?

Here's what 265's look like. They are the same width as the rim. These are Bridgestone RE-11 and I have to say they are the most disappointing tires I've ever used. They would be great for anyone looking to easily drift their car... I'm going back to my trusty Hankook tires in 255.

Car needs tires and I'm debating to stick with the 255 factory rears or go a bit wider with the 275s. I personally like a car with a little more meat in the rears (although 255 to 275 isn't drastic, it's still a change).
I am curious who is running 275 on the rears on stock 18x9 wheels. Any issues? Sidewall problems? Rubbing etc.?
I plan to keep the 235s up front. So, 235/40/18, 275/35/18.
Currently, on the fence among four tires: MPSS, DWS Contis, Nitto Invos, or Goodyear F1s
Thanks in advance,

I'm driving 275's on the rear.
The car looks better.
But the car hunts on the road. It no longer tracks like its on rails.
On the highway it feels floaty.
Fuel consumption went up.
I felt no different in traction.
Would i do it again - no.
I'm returning to factory sizing shortly and something in ET street for traction that i couldn't get from a wider size.

What Hankooks are you referring to?

Cool! What size rims and offsets?
I would like to see that set up also, if you have any pics!

The MPSS remains the best choice for a summer street tire.
I run the same sizes (245/265), and I think it's a perfect fit.
255/275 can fit, but both would need a wider wheel vs stock.
Both comments assume that you are at stock ride height.
235/275 would not only give you a too-wide-for-the-wheel rear tire (with sidewall flex issues that are not good for driveability and handling), but it would also increase the grip in the rear without a similar increase in the front. Our cars understeer already, and this would just make the problem worse.

The circumference of both front and back would be within .4" of each other (as opposed to 1.18" difference stock). Also, the sidewall height would be around a .07" difference (down from the stock .19" difference).
So overall the front and back tires would be visually about the same...just not sure how this would affect performance/other things.

275 is no problem, but I was running 12mm spacers all around and 275 would rub on a p30 lowered. I changed it to 265 after.

I had 275s MPSS on the rears with the full drop on h&r coilovers no rubbing. But 275s on the 19x10s rub like crazy on every bump and can't carry any passengers in the rear.
