Seems normal but wanted to get some input if anyone sees anything weird.

IMO no issues with your wear metals but a VERY lackluster showing from the M1 overall. This is in keeping with the published UOA's in recent years over a variety of vehicles - sometimes the formulation looks top-notch and other times - like in yours, it's weak and would make me turn elsewhere for oil.

As to your question about Motul you only have to look at the mfr approvals to know that it's a good choice, probably as good as any in the "top-shelf" category.

Looks good - UOA is unremarkable (as in "there is nothing that stands out", which is what you want) expecially considering that you mostly drive shot trips. Next time use a lab that will actualy give you the TBN of your used oil as well as the cold viscosity. You may be able to go longer on the same oil, but without the TBN it's hard to tell.

have done plenty of qtr mile passes and mountain events and never had a issue stick to what you know and Motul is great

This has been beaten to death in the past... and I've certainly done my fair share of the beating. Arguably the Mobil 1 is a better oil for the M156 motor than anything else on the market, but you are not going to go wrong by using any MB 229.5 approved oil. Especially for short trips and city driving however, the M1 0W-40 will protect the engine better than any other MB 229.5 oil on the market.

Thanks all for taking a look...not much drama with this analysis...I'll stick with M1 since it's quite cheap when on sale and can do 5k miles changes for longevity of motor.

But I'm genuinely very curious about why Mobil1 might actually be better in our case. Thanks!

Search for "Mobil 1" and "Diabolis" in this forum and you'll find a bunch of relevant (and lengthy) threads.

hahahah totally fair enough. I've been around long enough on many forums to know oil is about as beaten to death of a topic as one can come across. On M3Forum, it was Castrol vs Liqui Moly.

I ran Liqui Moly in my E30 and E36 M3s... until I got the E46, when BMW sternly warned me that it needed the TWS unless I wanted to end up with spun bearings... except that mine was a 2003.5 and had the revised crank bearings so I wasn't sure if I still needed the TWS as it made me afraid to drive the car in the winter...

Looks like you're 2x the amount of recommended sodium, so go easy on the potato chips. On a positive note, potassium is also double, great job eating those bananas.
Obviously I know nothing about UOAs.
