OFFTOPIC: Lots of Canadians?

So I've noticed something really interesting on this subforum that I've never noticed on any other automotive forum: I'd say a majority, or even half, of the C63 community seems to be from Canada.

Is there a reason behind this? You'd think that since the US is a far bigger country, we'd see a much larger group of Americans on here but that's not the case. Nothing against Canadians obviously, so no one take this the wrong way.

Just wondering if more C63's went to Canada, if Americans prefer the CTS V's or M3's more, or what the deal is?

Feel free to brainstorm with me 'cause I've not been able to figure it out.

On another note, Happy Memorial Day Weekend.

Definitely not even close to a majority here. I don't know where you get that from. Although some of the most active members are from Canada.

I dont have access to the numbers now but I have seen sales figures that show a disproportionately high number of North American C63s went to Canada. By population we should only have 10% but I think we got like 40%. If thats the case, it would make sense.
99% of that 40% must be here in Vancouver, where I must average 6 or 8 sightings a day and I don't even live in a posh part of town. Im always amazed when I see someone from Houston (for example) getting excited cos they saw one. Vancouver is half the size or less of most American centers and they are a dime a dozen around here.

AHA!

Honestly, in my neck of the woods, I see about 10 E9X M3's for every one C63. No joke, I see more McLarens that I do C63's.

Agreed, around here as well, seeing a W204 AMG in the wild is still a rare sight. even at car shows and meets you'd be hard pressed to find more than 3, while the E9x crowd is usually rolling in packs of 10+ cars. It does seem like the Canadian owners have formed a good group and have an active forum presence, while the active US members are more spread out. I see MBTN posts on instagram all the time, they have a lot of members even beyond the W204

We see about 10 M3s for every C63 too, so that'll tell you how common THOSE are lol, tho neither seem to be selling their newest models in the same kind of numbers they were, despite the amount of cash in this town. I actually think that money has gone even FURTHER upstream, to Lambos, Porsche Turbos, Ferraris etc.

Could not agree more with this. In the Bay Area's wealthiest spots, seeing a C63, or even E63 is quite rare just due to their pricing.

The new C63 is right up there around $80k... I can think of a couple other used cars I'd rather have for $80k. Hell, DB9's and base Gallardo's are going for $80k. In other words, I think the newer C63's, M3/M4's are a bit lost in terms of pricing and market segments.

There's only mine and a clapped out "base" car in my town.
BUT the Trans Canada Highway runs about 600' away from my front door, so the odd time I do get to see one or two blasting through / by.

In comparison, there's more Aston's, Lamobo's, Ferrari's, Tesla's, Alfa's etc than C63's..

Last I checked, per capita AMG sales in Ontario match that of LA and Miami. Being one of the Directors of MBTrueNorth I can tell you we are very passionate about the mercedes brand and our meets usually bring out 100-300 Mercedes vehicles, the majority usually being of the AMG variety.

It is the EXACT same way here in Minneapolis... No exaggeration, I see more M3/5/6, Porsche 911, Lamborghini, McLaren, etc. than I do c63's here, and I keep a close eye out for them. I have only seen 4 c63's other than mine here and 3 of them are MNMB club members.

Another car that seems to have killed its sales by jacking its price is the CTS-V. They top 100k here in Canada. 110k with options. Thats mental. A C63 is the same. 100k. And really, the performance gains from one generation to the next are minimal. They just sanded down a lot of the personality when they took out some of the rough edges.

When the W204 C63 came out its power was shocking, its attitude that of a DTM racer. Now it has pretty near the same power and wears a suit. Remember all those Chris Harris reviews? I think he did 5 videos on the C63, and he clearly loved that car. He even made a farewell video when production ended. And the way other journalists would slip in mentions of the C63, little praises on the side while reviewing other cars? Don't see anything like that anymore. Why? Cos they polished out all the personality, but damn it has some great electronics. Same can be said for the current M3 and CTS-V. Ramped up the price, and the fun fell out.

Put the price where it was, and settle for the gains from 6 years of engineering. Know your audience. I DONT GIVE A FLYING FIG FOR ALL THE AUTOMATIC FOOTWAGGING TRUNK CLOSING CRAP, JUST GIVE ME MOAR POW-ER!!!!!

The W204 had a hellacious motor with a loud exhaust, pretty decent brakes, and great seats, all wrapped up in crappier plastic than a VW Golf, and not one person got in my car and complained about the dash material. They were all too busy chuckling about the good stuff.

Just this once I need to go on record and say the Mustang GT350 is the new C63. One of those cars where the performance level is so ridonkulously high for the money that you can't figure out how all that go juice fits in one car with that price tag. Thats what our car was when it came out. Sure people will talk about how its still a Mustang and the switches etc are crap but damn, look at the public drool and they can't keep em on the show room floor. I want to drive one, and I can't cos I can't find one in this town that's not spoken for.

Rant over. I think.

I agree on the gt350 being a great performance bargain, however, they are hard to come by at msrp, definitely not getting an r that way.
And when i look at buying one, i consider that the performance level of my c6 z06 is far beyond the gt350 and i've had it since 06. The 350 is still a heavyweight compared to the z and a heads and cam ls7 will trump even some mildly blown cars.

a definite sign that they are selling faster than they can build them. M3/4, CTS-V/ATS-V and C63 are NOT selling for above msrp. They have over reached. I think this particularly true with the Caddy, which is an absolutely shtonkin car......if you want a luxury track car. Let's see by a show of hands who would like one? Lots of hands. If you would actually pay that kind of dosh call your name out....***crickets***.

Agreed.
There is one in my neighbourhood and it looks fantastic. But not at that price...

I can confirm that MB sells more AMGs per capita in Canada than anywhere else in the world, and year over year, 2015 AMG sales figures for Canda were up 48% over 2014 (and IIRC have been growing at pretty much the same rate since 2010 or so). The vast majority of the cars were sold in Toronto and Vacouver. As for a comparison with BMW, six or seven years ago there were 10 ///M cars for every AMG. Today there are easily twice as many AMGs on the roads in Toronto as there are ///M cars.

For the record. Canada is bigger than the US. The population of the US is bigger than that of Canada's.
